Ok so here's the deal - my sister, sick of her iPhone 4S, is looking into the Focus Flash. After showing her the ins and outs of my Focus S, she decided to take a trip to an AT&T store to play with one. Upon arrival, she was greeted by a rep. Here's the conversation:

Rep: Hi, can I help you?
Sister: Where are you Windows Phones?
Rep: Oh, you don't want one of those, they're a piece of crap.
Sister: But my brother has one and he loves it.
Rep: Does he play games on it a lot?
Sister: Yeah
Rep: Well that's why.

My sister then left AT&T, never getting to use the Flash.

Are you f***Ing kidding me!? What a terrible, unprofessional rep. I am seriously so upset at that guy. What an iSherp. I'm getting his card from that store at some point and will be sending a "strongly worded" email.

Your and your sis should go back and insist on seeing the Windows Phones AND buy it from that store but another rep. By allowing the rep to dissuade her he will only be encouraged to do it again and by buying it from the store but not him you give him the digital finger and lose him the commission.

Still dont get why people even listen to reps in the first place.

Dude, that flat out stinks! Are you going to try and steer your sister towards Windows Phone again? Don't give up because of that AT&T as*wipe! Sounds to me like you don't live close to each other if not you would have gone with her. Interesting that she's sick of the iPhone 4S. Why is that, btw?

Still dont get why people even listen to reps in the first place.
Because they don't have knowledgeable friends or relatives that can help them make an informed decision.

reps are so stupid... he just lost a potential sell.. and some $$ in his pocket.

WHO CARES IF WP7 *SUCKS* if a client wants it YOU F***ING sell it to him/her... lol

* im dont really think wp7 sucks btw *

Trust me, when my sister buys that Flash, we will buy from that store from another rep, right in front of him :)

I wouldn't buy from that store at all. I would go play with it in store with her and then order it online. When the phone gets there, go in to the store to have that rep swap her contacts.

He gets no commissions and gets to see how he lost that sale. Plus it'll get him even more pissed that he's not activating anyone, but instead is helping someone who he denied, set up her phone.

If that one rep does it, more than likely, more or all of them in that store do it.

See....now MY reaction would have been "Did I ask for your f-ing opinion? Show me the phone, or find me someone who wants to make a sale today."

But that's just me. :)

This is exactly why... WP7 is misunderstood, and only core community members know the true colors of WP7. Sales reps will continue to sell what they think is the best, and over weigh their opinions on sales.

I do have to agree with this statement.

if a client wants it YOU F***ING sell it to him/her...

Hopefully reps will be taught differently, but we can only hope.

I'm with Matt. But I would have thought of that after I walked out. But if I went into another store and got the same attitude, that rep would not be in a favorable position.

What's the **** is wrong with him! Even his answer about Windows Phone being crap is a total joke!

I'm pissed off as well!

thats goes beyond the interest in making money why did they put it in the store if they don't want anyone to buy it my reaction would be the same as matthew

This is the douchebaggery of retail idiots. The manager of my local AT&T corp store has a Samsung Focus (yes, still) and she loves it. When I had the developer beta of Mango, I showed it to her. Everyone in the store knows me very well. Every so often one of them will ask me "don't you like the iPhone?" My response is typically, no, I am not in preschool. Of course, then I have to explain what I mean by that.

I also have a friend who is a manager of another AT&T store, but further away. He is as dumb as the guy above. I went to his store one day and asked to see the Focus Flash. He asked me why I wanted to see a Windows phone? He also said doesn't it suck? I had to educate him a little but I still just don't think he gets it.

In all honesty, when RIM was on top, I used to hear pretty much the same comments toward the iPhone and Android. People are resistant to change, this is a simple fact of life.

However, being in a retail store, and responsible for selling product, there is no excuse for the way this guy treated his sister. I would have called AT&T directly (as I have in the past) and complained. I am very sure they would have done something to make the guy and his sister feel better. I know the last time I went through that, I was given a better device for no additional cost.

Yep I don't know what it is with these AT&T reps but I went in asking to view the Focus S when it first released and all they had was a dummy phone. I let him know that I'd come back in a few days as I really like the windows phones and he replied that I was basically the only one who likes it. It almost felt disrespectful, especially in front of other customers. Needless to say I waited and ordered the Titan online when it went on sale for a penny. I think the majority of the reps lack wp7 knowledge.

Thankfully IMO this is becoming a more isolated experience. When I was hunting for my Titan and going from store to store, most reps had a positive attitude about Windows Phone, but they just didn't know much about it. None of them tried to discourage me. One just tried to sway me to the Focus S instead.
