http://wmpoweruser.com/rumour-rogers-nokia-lumia-920-exclusivity-is-only-for-1-month/

Rogers recently announced themselves as the exclusive carrier for the Nokia Lumia 920* in Canada.

This of course made Telus and Bell users rather unhappy, but the following news might turn those frowns upside down.

Reader James spoke to a Roger?s representative and was informed that the exclusivity period was only one month.

Hopefully this is the case, and this pattern is replicated elsewhere the handset is exclusive also, and we can see Windows Phone fans on other carriers also enjoy the best Windows Phone 8 handset announced so far.

So what does this mean for At&t's exclusive then? This will mean that it's only for one month if it is. Then Verizon and hopefully t-mobile can get. I know they made sad about the exclusive. But when they get I think they will advertise it heavily since they really want wp8 to succeed. So I think they are doing the s3 way. Still advertise it while it's on multiple carriers. When it comes in one month later. That will mean the 920 is on time for black Friday which is the best day for people to buy stuff

Pretty sure everyone is fully aware that the 920 is only a time exclusive with AT&T. That doesn't make Verizon customers any less pissed.

So what does this mean for At&t's exclusive then?

I doubt it will mean anything for AT&T's exclusive. Bell and Telus now use the same technology as Rogers. Years ago Bell and Telus used CDMA like Verizon and Sprint, but that's changed (their old network is probably still intact, but they don't sell any CDMA phones).

Back when AT&T had an exclusive on the iPhone, all three companies (Rogers, Bell, and Telus) were selling the iPhone in Canada. And it was the same phone, unlike the iPhone 4 where the AT&T version was different from the Verizon/Sprint version.

However, in the slight case that some of the smaller Canadian carriers get the Lumia 920, such as Wind, Mobilicity, or Videotron, then that will put AT&T's exclusivity at risk as those companies use the same frequencies as T-Mobile 3G (4G??) network.

Just read the WMPoweruser article. Apparently one guy spoke to one Rogers customer service agent. I'm sure many of us know how reliable and knowledgeable these telephone reps can be, and how they have never told any lies or have never just guessed at an answer to save some time. <insert sarcasm>

Although I would not be surprised that Rogers didn't have a long exclusive, but I'd suggest taking this with a grain of salt..... if I didn't think it would be a waste of salt.

Unless you were planning on breaking your contract with Bell or Telus to switch to Rogers just to get this phone, I'd ignore this rumour. If you were planning on spending big bucks to break your contract to switch just to get this phone, then wait it out. Just remember that other story where a Bell csr said that they would be getting 2 Windows Phones and specifically said that the Lumia 920 was not going to be one of them.

And if you use one of the new entrants like I do, then there is little hope that an AWS Lumia 920 will be coming anytime as long as AT&T has an exclusive. Join me in crossing your fingers and hoping that the 920's Pureview camera trickles down to the mid-range (i.e. more affordable and non-exclusive) line-up of phones sometime next spring.

I was going to get the Rogers phone and get it unlocked and use it on Fido. I guess I will just wait a bit and let the things settle down. Hopefully it will come to Fido.

A couple inaccuracies in your post. I can't speak for TELUS, but Bell has
stopped support for their CDMA network. Also, the iPhone launched as a Rogers exclusive, and was until the launch of the iPhone 4. Apart from that, pretty bang on.

Also, Rogers having a timed exclusive doesn't do Bell and TELUS users any good, as both carriers have publicly stated they won't be carrying the 920.

Yeah read this... I can 100% confirm that it's BS

I worked on Rogers tech support and Rogers customer care on a management level AND we never EVER ever were told anything in advanced.

we found out rogers was getting the Lumia 900 the same day as it was posted on Rogers website and roger redboard.

Bell and telus were CDMA networks years ago BUT haven't released a CDMA device in a few years as it's completely fazing it out.

the iphone was exclusive with rogers at the time because it was the only GSM network in canada.

It's not coming to Fido. lol I don't even think that the Galaxy S3 is out for Fido yet. That is one of the bad things about Rogers, they treat their budget company like crap while Bell makes Virgin quite an attractive option and Telus does the same for koodo.

I guess I will have to get a phone from Rogers and get it unlocked. Oh well. Will see how it goes.

What if Nokia starts selling factory unlocked phones? Let's pray for a miracle! :)

I also worked for Rogers customer care so I personally wouldn't trust this whole inside tip coming from them. Unless they happened to be personal buddies with Nadir Mohamed (President and CEO of Rogers).

As for other options for Canadian users that don't want to settle for black L920's, we can only hope other forms of unlocked versions will pop up around the net. AT&T may or may not allow unlocking of their model. Telstra is getting it as well, likely in yellow from the looks of things. I know they also work on AT&T/Rogers/Bell/Telus once unlocked.
