I was on a call for ~ 10 min. Took this phone away from my face - no screen. I think it had happened on more than one occasion.
Any suggestions?

Thanks

Check to make sure your proximity sensor is not covered with a Case or Dirty. It sits just above the "N" in the Nokia logo on the top right.

Boy, is that easy? That could have been the reason, but as the worst symptom of any problem, most of the time it works fine. As one programmer to another: these kind of bugs are the ugliest.

Yes, in most cases it's dust in front of the proximity sensor. You can use compressed air or a vaccum cleaner at the top of the phone (earphone jack and ear piece) to fix that. I used the vacuum cleaner with a small head and it worked.

Are you saying I have to vacuum it as regular as a rug on my living room's floor?
I have had many phones before, none of them ever had this problem. I am keeping my fort - it is a H/S bug.

The problem with dust getting in the chassis in the first place is def a hardware issue. I have not had any problems with mine but I keep the glass clean. There are several of threads with people having the same issue and after cleaning and blowing out the top of the phone it works fine.

You clearly have issues with your proximity sensor guessing from your other "screen too dark" thread. If cleaning sensor won't help, you badly need a replacement handset.
