second screen resolution problem?

Hey,

I have a second screen next to my laptop which should run at 1920x1080 however is stuck to ancient 1024x768..

has anyone experienced that problem and more optimistically has anyone managed to find a work around?

Are the drivers for the second screen installed properly? Also, how about the graphics drivers?
