Should I take the plunge

Hello there!

I am very interested into the Samsung Focus with Windows Phone 7. Really like the phone design and the UI. I would really like to take the plunge but a few things worries me:

1- The Samsung Focus is offered by Rogers here and it is a minimum of a 3 years contract to pay 50$ for it.

2- With the Mango update and possibly the new phones coming in Fall (October?), it worries me that the Focus will not be able to be updated. I will mostly use the phone for music, email, phone, internet and a few applications.

So, take the plunge now or just wait for the new phones with Mango at Fall. Any suggestion?

Thanks

They should update it to Mango. Just make sure to get a hardware revision 1.3, as 1.4 still has not gotten the NoDo update and I fear 1.4 will never get Mango!

Can you get it online for the same price, or slightly more with a shorter contract; say maybe from Amazon?

WP7 + Zune Pass = most awesome music device ever.

I just ordered 2, one for me and one for my wife, and I am really hoping that they send me revision 1.3. I am hoping that AT&T is not selling them anymore due to all of the prblems associated with them.

Just return any 1.4's you get jeff, its not worth hanging onto. I don't even think Samsung knows how to fix its issue.

To OP, get a used one off ebay if want now. Dont buy the focus on a 3 yr. Wait till fall for contract worthy devices. And believe me when I say the focus is an awesome device. I just wouldn't want it 2 years from now let alone 3.

I agree. If you are going to pay $50 + 3 years, just get a WP on eBay, probably less than $200 for nearly new. The phone will get updated in the Fall. When new devices are introduced in a few months you can take your time and pick the device you want to hang onto for 3 years. Enjoy.

Ok well, with the law here, the maximum penalty if I break a contract is the rebate given by the carrier on the phone and that is if I cancel the contract within the next month and Roger's rebate is 550$ (Law is in the province of Quebec only).

I would guess that I will keep the phone for the next 2 - 3 years with the mango update so at most I will have to pay a penalty of 183.00$ after 2 years. which is about the same price as a fo

The phone is very tempting because I am not sure that Samsung will make one in the 4 inch format in the next generation of phone.

This is what I found most sad with windows phone. We knews at least 3 - 4 months in advance which high-end android phone will be released and we still do not have any news about the next generation windows phone hardware.

i bought mine off craigslist for $200, they aren't too hard to find, ebay might be slightly higher, but $200ish is a good deal for off contract imo. :)
