Should the touch type 2 keyboard turn the screen on and off

I have a touch type 2 keyboard with the surface, it seems to turn on the screen but when I close it, it doesn't turn it off. Not sure if it should

It should, sometimes there is a delay of a few seconds, but it should turn the screen on and off
