I set up IMAP+SMTP using SSL account on my HP x3 with latest official updates and the app won't send emails from this account. It gets into 'your account is out of date' or some such loop and that's it. It works on my Surface Book, it works on my L1520 with WP8.1, only on the X3 Elite it does not. Elite? Pariah more like it. It's a bug in a very basic functionality, that they should be able to program in their sleep. I reported it to MS, but I am not holding my breath. I have always been a fan of MS products, but it's getting increasingly difficult to find some enthusiasm left.

Is the port set correctly?
Yes, I checked that the settings are exactly the same as on my WP8.1 phone and as on my Surface Book where it's working. It can still receive the emails via IMAP, but cannot send anything. I have also Gmail and Office365 account on the phone, those are working fine

On my 650, with Google, I found it seemed to be that I had to be logged onto gmail via the web papge using the phone, while doing the setup. It seems to me there's some extra verification going on and setting are not accepted if not logged through the web page. I would watch for any emails. I had my share of weird messages and time outs, until I did this. I suggest you delete the account from the phone or tablet and then set it up and save while logged in.

So the update is that I upgraded my old L1520 again from WP8.1 to WM10. After each update (there were 2), I updated the apps and sent an email from the problematic account. Also there was an update of the mail app today. And it works. It's just the X3 Elite phone where it does not work. I will try to re-add the account again if it makes any difference. So it looks like it's X3 related either HW or some settings that make the app fail.

Is it a Microsoft account your using for email? Have you got 2 Step authentication turned on for your Microsoft account? If so the smtp app your using may not have the ability to deal with the second step and will instead require a specially generated alternative account password - but it won't be able to tell you this.
Go to your Microsoft account and generate a one off app code and use that as your password in the app.
Hope this helps.

i've dealt with my provider about this and got suggested settings from them and not automated configured outlook settings by just putting in username and pwd, if you ever get out of date settings error, delete account, turn off device, reboot, enter in manually right settings also while logged in online to your webmail and just leave it, don't go back in and change any settings, set it up properly on first time with all values and just leave, that worked for me.
