So no GDR3 till early 2014?

When you hand something to manufacturers, it is the RTM(that's why its called RTM) In this case, microsoft launched the developer preview program after gdr3 has RTMed, and thus we get the final version for now, in the future, developer may get earlier build. To confirm, you can ask the guys to check 1520's WP8 build, if its different than ours, then we dont actually get the RTM.
in the case of no change in APIs, the only reason microsoft release this preview is for developer to test their app whether it works with the new features as intended(rotation lock may affect apps and games behavior).

Just to clarify I shouldn't be expecting it on my 822 until at least after the turn of the calendar?

My guess (and yes, I'm guessing - but based on what I've heard from reputable sources, so it's an educated guess) is that Black is pretty close to being done, for carrier testing soon. I'd be surprised if the carrier testing doesn't start before December, maybe even before November yet. I'm still wondering if the Windows Phone Blog is mistaken about Black coming in 2014, based on what I've heard from other sources. But again, I'm hypothesizing here.

Unlike some, I'll tell you when I'm guessing, and if I've got solid info to back it up, I'll post it.

THIS IS NOT GOSPEL (for those who would twist it)

Looks likely educated guess has a bit more credence. Wpcentral just posted an article stating black will be coming in coming weeks. What that means exactly could be one of several possibilities, but my guess is that it means it will be in carriers hands in that time frame.

some people can never be satisfied. Many users just got the amber update. so have patience and wait for official GDR3 even if it comes in 2014

Oh - and hey - if they're going to be releasing Black to carriers in coming weeks, that is even more evidence that GDR3 is "finished" (The word that Greg Sullivan used). Black won't go to carriers without GDR3.

GDR3 + Lumia Black (Bittersweet Shimmer) will be with us in the coming weeks. No idea where you got 2014 from...

How do I know?? Well let's just say that I have my 'sources' close to MS+Nokia..... Patience people!!!!

The source was Stephen Elop, President and CEO of Nokia since 2010.
Maybe he's wrong.

You all have your sources and information all wrong. All the glance features are going to be in early January, therefore they won't be coming with Nokia Black. Nokia Black is still coming in coming weeks(AKA, in the coming months).

No, it doesn't. Let me complete that:
Will be the RTM (or GA) the same build of the preview? No, and you will see that when the rtm will be available. Now we have the 8.0.10512.*, the rtm will be greater.
I can attest that the build isn't the released version any more than the preview of WP8 is the same as the released version. I updated my WP8 from the beta to the released version and I can't keep a wifi connection without rebooting several times. And not to mention I have this nagging SecureBoot message on my screen that won't go away. Didn't have this during the beta but I have it now. Anyone that thinks the preview and the released are the same spend a little too much time at XDA developers.

if you take a look at the link above, you see its the same exact build. A build is when you compiled your code. It would be unethical to compile 2 different if not the same code using the same number. Even if its the same code, you just cant. And if you read the whole thread, youll find the director said theyre giving the same build as what they gave to manufacturers(RTM) courtesy of launching the WP developer preview program, because gdr3 has RTMed before the program, in the future we may get earlier build. And there is no reason to give a previous build to test if there is a better build.

what you have seems to be an update error.
add: and also, previously you only get the OS update, HTC has their own firmware update i presume? Firmware makes the hardware works with the software(OS).

Taking a look at the calendar early 2014 isn't too far away. If you are that impatient don't what to tell ya. Enjoy your new Android I guess.

If anyone wants it (GDR 3) in 2013, I am selling Christmas socks (fresh, unused, seal packed, from a smoke and pet free home), $199.99 a piece and $399 for the pair (Free shipping on every order), no contracts :).
Pretty sure Santa will fulfill your wish, if you use my socks.
