Some Apps not closing in WP8.1!

So I have noticed that when I access the phone settings or Facebook and then I exit out of them they don't close! I hold the back button and they are still there so my phone has 2 or 3 apps open at the same time... I can turn them off by pressing the X in the corner but its kinda annoying when I have to double check every time I close an app. It's very annoying because It drains the battery even more than it is already draining in WP8.1.

Anyone have similar problem or know how to fix it? Would be handy to know!

Mine does the same thing. I never realised it before. I wonder if that's just the way it is or if I need to do a hard reset it to get it to work properly or maybe I missed something in not reading up on everything.

I'm fairly sure this doesn't drain the battery. It's called tombstoning and is intentional - the app is stored in the phone's RAM so it can resume quickly when you go back to it.
In this state the app isn't doing anything at all (unless it's an app that's allowed to run in the background like a music or timer app but it would be running in the background anyway then) and so it doesn't use up any extra power. If you open enough new apps (I think something like 6 on phones with 512MB RAM, 8-10 on phones with more) then the old ones close on their own.

WP 8.1 apps no long close or exit. That's one of the big changes in WP8.1 app models. If an app develop wants to, you can still make a WP8.1 app exit like before with some code changes.

Most apps still do close with the back button, though. It seems to be upto the developer whether they want to implement this. For example, WhatsApp closes via the back button, while Facebook doesn't.

WP8 apps still close as before. Only apps re-written for WP8.1 won't close by default.
