Sometimes no ringtones and alarm sound

Hy,
sometimes my phone does not play ringtones and alarm sounds, so I miss incoming calls and oversleep.
When I go to the sounds in the settings and hit the play symbol, they are not played, too.
Only solution is to switch off phone and restart.
Anybody else noticed this?

Yep. I've started using "Realarm" and I don't know if using that app as my alarm fixed it or it's just not been happening because it was random. Happened on my M8, though, not on a 640, so it's an OS thing, not the phone itself. There have been some other threads about it elsewhere.

I believe 640 is shipped with 8.1 update 2/GDR 2 and this is a known issue/bug in update 2. In my case, I too faced this issue when I updated my 730 to GDR2 using Insider Preview.
However, this is pretty temporary bug which may not occur again after a soft reset. You should try that as I have not faced this issue for weeks now.

I got the alarms issue a few weeks ago. I also get issues with apps not playing sounds. That happens more frequently. It only started happening after moving to gdr 2.

This issue existed before update 2 because my T-Mobile M8 doesn't have GDR2 and I had this problem. GDR may have exacerbated the problem but it's not new.

I noticed that too, I wasn't sure if it was me or the volume level or what. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, can't figure it out.

Not really. I have never oberved such issues with GDR-1.

Just because you haven't experienced it with GDR1 doesn't mean others haven't. Again, it may be more prevalent in GDR2, but it's existed for a long time. Some of the below go back to 2013.

good that you researched but those threads don't actually prove an issue with OS (GDR 1/GD2) ;-)
I am sure that I certainly did not face this issue before update 2.

I am sure that I certainly did not face this issue before update 2.

The key phrase being "you" didn't face this issue before update 2. I'm not trying to be argumentative, but apparently other people did experience it prior to GDR1 and GDR2, including myself. So I'm guessing it actually is a part of the OS. GDR1 or GDR2 may have made it more common/more likely to occur, but this isn't new to GDR2.

because of that I do prophylactic reboot every few days
