Sony or Nokia Windows Phone?

If Nokia's collection gets expanded to other phones, I'll probably get a Sony phone. Don't get me wrong, Nokia phones are amazing, but I just wanna change it up a little.

After using a crappy Xperia ZL, which speakers have the most low and bad quality (people barely hear me in a call with speakers on) this phone was the key to switch me over to WP Nokia Lumia 1520. What a quality of a phone and not issues with the speakers. People can hear me clearly even if i am far away from the phone. So, because of this experience with a Sony smartphone. I will say a Nokia over a Sony, if you want quality. This is probably why Sony smartphones has never got popularity, because the quality sucks.

SONY all the way just got the SONY XPERIA Z1 and it awesome if SONY do the Z1 with WP8/8.1 then I definitely buy it with a heartbeat!

You would buy from Sony, after they bashed WP, and Nokia supporting windows phone and giving a **** load of money to promote it? :-/

Having had some very bad experiences with HTC and two of their devices I will never have another HTC again. My LG's have been bulky but rugged and lasted a while, but the Nokias have been hands down the best phones I have ever owned. Nokia for me.

exactly. I would have a hard time supporting any company like Sony or LG who more or less wrote the OS off as nothing and then want to come back and act as if they weren't douches about it. Same with Samsung and their overall treatment. While I understand the overall desire not to be loyal to one OEM.....at the same time, I would be wary of any OEM who trashed the os I use.

the new sony android phones look impressive in terms of their specs but I've heard that in terms of ergonomics they are a pain. I have the new nokia lumia 1520 and its probably the best phone I've ever owned, and I have had samsung, lg, and htc phones in the past. Some of Sony's new phones are waterproof and thats kinda cool but there is 1 reason I would stay away from sony: their software is awful. I mean, throughout my life, I've never seen a company able to screw up such nice hardware with their software. Let me explain, around 6-9 months ago I was playing with the sony android tablet, the xperia z and it was lagging. There were no apps running, so essentially, sony managed to make a brand new out of the box tablet, running on one of the fastest processors (at the time on the market: the qualcomm s4 pro) lag. Their android skin might be one of the most obtrusive and performance dropping skins I've ever seen. I mean, take samsung, for example, I'm not crazy about their touchwiz interface but it mostly just makes android look different but it still functions mostly the same. The real difference I've noticed is that samsung is trying to get you to use other services, like putting dropbox on the phone as the default cloud storage instead of google drive, for example. But, in any case, their additions to android don't really seem to make it lag unlike sony. Which is a shame because I REALLY liked the look and feel of the tablet, it was relatively well built and very thin and good looking.

If you want a windows phone, then I would say to definitely go with nokia because now, their phones have very competetive specs that can easily compete with the likes of samsung and htc. If you want to go android, then I would go with HTC, LG, or samsung. LG seems to be coming out with some really cool stuff lately and their android skin looks more aesthetically different but only like they changed the icons and what not, but left the ui of android pretty much the same as the stock version, (this is from what I've seen, I could be wrong).

Brought a Z1, the I sent my 920 to my insurance company for repair didn't have any in stock so I got given alternatives which was an SONY XPERIA Z, Samsung note 2 or a Samsung galaxy s4.

Went for the SONY Xperia Z, however if SONY do release a WP device will defiantly purchase immediately!

Ouch, no WP at all now, time to show you the door then  Here's your new home from now on

On a serious note though, my choice will probably be a Lumia again for my next phone, but I'd still love to see some OEM's like Sony and LG bring out some top notch phones for the WP platform. Going into a store and seeing the likes of a Z1, LG G2, Lumia 1020 and 1520 all available as high end phones on the WP platform would be great. Enjoy your Z1, don't forget about WP!

i was at a persons home and they had stated that they werent a fan of the sony hardware and continued to tell me all the issues that both him and his wife had with their same phones. i have never heard a complaint of hardware from a nokia user so if it were me i would look at nokia first and then sony.

So, my contract just ended in December. And now I'm waiting for just about any WP8.1 device announcements. May they be MWC in February, or MS BUILD until April. And basically i'm wondering what my next Windows Phone should be. I'm staying on T-Mobile, and I'm still daily driving my little HTC Radar.

But basically, if way more companies would maybe push out like one to three new WP's this year, what company do you think you would choose? I honestly don't like the mentality of giving Nokia the pass, and going All Hail Nokia, just because Microsoft bought them. I'd rather a Microsoft Surface Windows Phone, but that's just not the case. If Blackberry would theoretically make a Windows Phone, I would certainly be eager to look at that too. I came from like three Blackberries before this.

So, my main thoughts are: Sony, Nokia, LG, HTC, Samsung, Asus, Lenovo. From all these companies, I've read crazy stories about how they're looking WP8 pretty closely. Sony the most closest now, and Samsung behind them. From I've read, Samsung might push out a phone exclusively on Verizon, which is weird because i thought they liked money. And I've liked what I've read about LG looking WP too, knowing that all they do is look at what Samsung does and trying to emulate that.

So out of all this wild speculation, I really want to know: Which should I get: A Sony Windows Phone, or a Nokia Windows Phone? Later this year.
And really, if you had a larger choice of manufacturers to choose from, who would you rather a dream phone from?

I'd pick LG, I know they will put a massive battery in it...Huawei might be a good option for you, especially the w2. Or try the HTC 8X

I really hope that Microsoft offers a Surface-branded Windows Phone directly, i.e. off-contract and no carriers. Sure, this will likely be something available in very limited numbers, but I'd much rather get something that'll receive the updates (e.g. Nexus). We diehard Windows Phone *fans* deserve something like a Surface phone.

Personally i think, nokia is the wp8 brand, they have many nokia exclusive apps and updates and IMO they have the best design and hardware,MS already confirmed all WP8 devices will receive WP8.1 so no need to worry...

I know all the wp8 lumias will but I doubt the HTC 8S will.

Do you have a link for ms confirming all this ?

My experience is exactly the opposite - I find many problems with Nokia products which seem very poor quality (peeling cases, screens that scratch when touched by a feather, buggy software, etc). I never had a problem with a Sony.
I guess these posts cancel each other out, so buy whichever you like. Except you can't buy a Sony WP, of course,

Personally I'd go with Nokia, hands down. I've owned Sony phones and other devices in the past and while they are generally made quite well, no other company is equal to Nokia for customer support. Nokia have a vested interest in Windows Phone (and I'm hoping Nokia's standard of support will remain the same when the Lumia devices are transferred to MS).

At this point we know that Nokia produce WP8 devices, are continuing to update and innovate in their device line-ups and we also know that Sony has made no such effort or announcement for supporting the WP platform. Ever.

Presumably, all the great software that was exclusive to the Lumia line will be available to every WP manufacturer once the buyout is complete. Again, assuming that happens, then OEMs will once again be on equal ground when it comes to building their own ecosystem within the WP family. If that happens, then yeah I'd be open to a Sony handset. Samsung doesn't care and HTC doesn't have the creativity. Sony at least has exclusive services they could bring to a WP like a PS4 companion app or they could create an app that works with Sony TVs. My first choice would still be a "Surface Phone" but Sony would get a strong consideration.
