So first day started with mixed feelings... phone was plugged whole night and I unplugged it at 8am. After 30min there was already 94% battery ( 3 apps update, quick fb check... and that's it) now it's 10am and it shows 84%... with 2-3min web browsing, weather check, 1 photo shot, 2 minutes news reading...

I'm sure that the phone already downloaded all necessary files overnight, also standby is quite impressive as it maybe drops 1-2% per hour...:)

So my only concern at the moment is battery when using the phone! I know it's QHD screen but 3000mah battery at the same time. I will keep watching this and see if it's better after some time.

Re overall performance this phone is a beast- there is no comparison to my previous l640!!!
Some other possible causes: if you copy over a ton of photos and music, it will spend battery on indexing those and checking metadata of the songs. If you have a groove music pass and it's set up to download songs in your playlist, that can use up a good amount of battery power. If you have a long history of text messages, it will be downloading those for a while, which uses power. And finally, if it makes a device backup this can use up the battery as well, but I think it may do that only while on the charger.

It takes a day or two for battery life to settle down, in my experience. I've got my 950 on Release Preview and I would say that I lose 2-3% per hour when idle.

This is true but in my experience after the settle down, I still never got more than a day before putting it on the charger again. I have also hard reset too, no luck. I'm not even a power user so this annoys me.

I was surprised to see the number of people who have the 950 also have the 640. I do too and the 950 is a little faster. But for the price, I can't see why everyone doesn't have a 640 as a backup.

I just purchased a new 950 3 days ago to replace my 640 XL. This is my second 950 and it is very fast and snappy compared to the 640 XL

One problem though is the battery. It seems to drain quickly. Will do the latest update tonight and see how it goes. All in all a much better experience this time around compared to November of last year.

If you could compare a real life usage to the attached image...? View attachment 130811

The main difference here is OS build.

950 review date: 2 december 2015, which means it most likely had 10.0.10586.11 installed.
640 Review date: 18 may 2016, possibly 10.0.10586.318 installed.

Battery time improved a lot during those five months, as well as stability and performance.

I'd love to see a brand new 950 being put to the test without any updates, just 10.0.10586.11 together with a used battery (to rule out any fresh battery issues), and then tested again with 10.0.14393.321, and finally 10.0.14946.1000.

My 950 has a pretty good battery time, and it rarely gets hot. I'm very happy with it.

My last three phones were the 925, the 640 and now the 950. Out of those three, the 950 comes in last for battery life. Even on the latest Insider Preview, the 950's battery life does not match up to the previous phones. For example, I'd leave the fully charged 925 off the charger overnight and 8 hours later the battery level was 98-99%. The 950, however, will be at 88-90%

In the past week ... L950 and L950XL ... fully charged 100% at 9pm. Both phones at 98% battery when I get up at 4am ... WiFi off ... connected to 4g LTE cell signal all night. Both phones running most recent production release OS

640 has a longer battery life no doubt.Own both the 640 and 950 and the 950 is a lot faster ofc.But when i bought the 950 i was really dissapointed with the battery and overheating, but after every w10m upgrade it got better and better.Today my 950s battery life is quite solid and the phone never gets hot even when im streaming(which i do a lot) or playing games .Both great phones but 950 outclasses it

I own both, the good reason for me to switch to Lumia 950 is the camera and continuum. The only complaint I have about 950 is that it has shorter battery life than 640. Other than this, 950 is better in every aspects.

My L950 on battery saver and quiet hours also with mobile data OFF goes from 100% at 9pm to 98 or 97% by 8am, no complaints on that front.
