Hi ,
I have had problem upgrading a 64 bit Win 7, (brand new install), up to Win 10.
Attempt 1 stuck at 99% for 12+ hours.
Attempt 2 stuck at 99% for 13+ hours, (excluding the time it was in sleep mode - from the 29-07 to this morning 03-07)
I have 'SNIPPED' images of the hung install window, all the Task Manager panes and the Internet History from Chrome since the Win 7 OS went live - plus control panel screens showing the computer configuration, System Basics, Device Manager and Action Centre - non of which suggest a problem or a possible solution as far as I can see - they can be made available if they would be of help.

My upgrade assistant will still run - so it must have downloaded all appropriate files AND I don't want to lose this position as I assume - since we are beyond the free cutoff for windows 10 upgrade I cannot start from the very beginning again?

It has been suggested that I download the upgrade to a USB stick which may work - how do I do this from where I am now - part way through the upgrade?
-----------------------------------------
I have just saved all event logs that contain any event data.

There are entries in the following log that may explain what is happening - hopefully data supplied will trigger an answer or a process I can employ.

Event Log: Microsoft-Windows-WindowsUpdateClient/Operational
Shows:
* EventID 42 // Keywords 0x4000000000000480
* EventID 42 // Keywords 0x4000000000000480
* EventID 30 // Keywords 0x4000000000000001
* EventID 42 // Keywords 0x4000000000000480
* EventID 42 // Keywords 0x4000000000000480
* EventID 42 // Keywords 0x4000000000000480

Hopefully the above means something to someone.
I can supply full details if required.

check this article: How to do a clean installation of Windows 10 | Windows Central

But you can do the upgrade for free since you had already selected it before the due date

You won't be able to continue from where you are, you would be starting from scratch with the upgrade.
It's possibly worth contacting Microsoft, as they may honour the free upgrade if they see you had issues during the update process.

Hi,

Waiting forever seems to have been a solution - or else it's magic.

The last attempt to install was started on the 28th and got to 99% where it stuck.

After looking at the logs to determine if anything could be found to explain the 'lock-up' at 99% the upgrade screen disappeared leading me to believe that the upgrade had finished.

Although the machine has been into 'sleep' more than once AND a Kaspersky install also appeared to fail again stuck at 99% I was surprised to find that having created a USB Win 10 Upgrade on another machine when I went to visistors to my neighbours machine today, (after 7 days), the Windows 10 screen appeared asking me to sign in.

It has since checked for suitability and upgraded to the latest version.

Cannot explain this but 64 bit windows 10 is up and running.

Had exactly the same issue on my Laptop and managed to fix it by emptying up the SoftwareDistribution folder within the Windows folder on your System partition and completely disabling Windows Updates.
