WOW! Really? Microsoft removed backgrounds? I was really looking forward to that...

To remove something means it was actually in use in the first place.

They were trying out different ways of offering more customization. The one that won out was parallax view tile backgrounds.

They should have kept it in, as long as it was there incase people wanted to use it.
