Hi,

I got a Lumia 950 about a month ago and all has been fine so far. But a couple of days ago the secondary ("selfie") camera started showing stripes in the top part of images (see attached sample photos). The phone is running Windows 10 Mobile build 10.0.14393.576 on hardware revision 2.1.1.2.

This happens with the camera app as well as Whatsapp, Skype etc., so not isolated to a specific app. The main camera is still fine and has no such issues, so I am wondering whether this is a hardware fault or could possible be a software issue only?
Anybody got any idea what could cause those weird stripes, and how I could find out whether this is a hardware or software issue (without sending the phone back to the supplier)?

Cheers, Frederik

Did you drop your phone recently?

I've read of hardware issues like yours here in this forum, and it was caused by dropping the phone with the corner hitting the ground first (the corner of the phone that is nearest to the front camera).

I myself am experiencing a camera issue. My 950's main camera makes a certain buzzing, almost like a short-circuit kinda sound when I'm trying to take pictures. When the buzzes occurs, I find the camera's focus going awry, and it's very very hard for the camera to focus now. I have to be as still as a statue to make sure the focus doesn't go off the mark.

No, didn't drop it. If I did then at least there would be some explanation, but this just started a few days ago without anything special happening to my phone as far as I am aware. :/

Something has definitely happened to the camera app in this build, I am finding camera closing down and I created an initial post on my initial issues, see post > Has .576 broken the camera app. in this section.

I just enabled insider preview on my phone and installed build 10.0.14965.1001, but the issue still remains.
So either it really broke in 10.0.14393.576 and hasn't been fixed yet, or it is a hardware fault. Would be pretty bad if the sensor already failed after only a month.

I will attempt a hard reset of the phone. If that doesn't fix it I think I'll have to send it back. :(

If updating and hard resetting didn't resolve good chance it is hardware related, sensor, cabling, etc.

You mentioned Skype so I'm assuming you've tested the video aspect of it too?

Yep, first noticed it while Skyping, and tried taking video too. Same result as still photos. So I fear you are right and it's likely a hardware fault. Thanks.
