Sudden battery drain and "Listening"

Hi, weird stuff happening.

yesterday morning went to turn on the phone and battery was dead flat. I normally do not have anything running and get at least two days of standby, but thought, I must have forgotten something. Put it on charge, used it a couple of times during the day and it was 94% at bedtime.

I have Cortana turned off by setting Location Off.
I have apps that run in the background turned off.
Can't turn off Outlook, but would like to as I never use it.
Can't turn off Settings.

Now the weird. This morning my pocket started talking. I pulled out the phone and it had "Listening" at the top of the screen and then Cortana said, "I am sorry I didn't understand that." HUH??

I checked and Settings/Cortana and it said, "Turn on Location and I will get started."

Thoughts, suggestions? The paranoid within has me wondering if msoft is telling us the truth about everything that is turned on and "listening." :)

You can turn data off if you want which will stop anything from happening with your phone other than phone calls but then I wonder what you'd use your phone for... Settings -> mobile + SIM -> data connection.

It's possible that you might have updated some apps or something of just forgot to charge it. Having 94% at the end of the day would seem like a dream to me with light use.

As for your other curiosity. If your phone becomes unlocked and the search button is 'pressed' the standard voice assistant comes on. This is not Cortana. To fix this, go to Settings -> Speech -> uncheck Use Speech when the phone is locked.

Thanks, but since then, I did a full factory restore.
Then I uninstalled everything that could be uninstalled.
Did not sign in with my Live account.
Disabled everything I could find- including "Data" and no 4G sign with the reception bars.
At 8:00am yesterday morning phone fully charged.
At 9:00pm yesterday evening phone showing 99% with no use but on stand-by.
At 8:00am this morning phone is showing 93% AND Data is turned back on!

I am not liking this. It seems msoft/Nokia are doing stuff on their own. It might be innocent enough but, it is beginning to explain the battery use when the phone is not being used but left in stand-by mode.
