Just got my Surface 3 today - gorgeous bit of kit!

One of the things I was expecting is that the type cover would unlock the surface when you open it (similar to the iPad cover).
I can see it does this on other surface models - any idea how i make it do this?!

Thanks :)

Think it's in the settings when you swipe right and go to settings thing. It's somewhere around the lockscreen settings if I'm not mistaken. Sorry my Surface is dead so I can't help you out currently.

Cant seem to find it anywhere there :( Once you're recharged, i'd love it if you can help me find it!!

Still can't find this :( My surface locks when you close the cover, but doesn't unlock when you open... Anyone got any ideas??

Alright after some black magic stuff my Surface 2 turned on. So I found the stuff.

1. Go to your desktop.
2. Swipe right, tap settings and open up control panel.
3. Go to "Hardware and Sound"
4. Go to "Power Options".
5. Tap "Choose what closing the lid does".

That should work I think, haven't tested it out since my keyboard died and I'm trying to fix it. Tell me if it works.

Cheers

My experience is that the above directions work for having closing the Type Cover putting the Surface in sleep mode, but does not wake the device back up when you open. I do not see any way for opening the type cover to automatically wake up the device.

Those settings don't control what happens when the lid is opened. The device sleeps correctly when the lid is closed. It sometimes fails to wake when the lid is opened, requiring the power key to be pressed.

Unfortunately, in my case, it's 'always' fails to wake when the lid is opened. I'm not sure if it's intentional or not... 100% of the time it sleeps when closed...

There are a couple posts in the "bugs" thread about this. I just don't think it's supported.

Just got my brand new Surface 3 with red type cover and the same thing is happening to me. It goes to sleep when I close the cover but doesn't ''wake-up'' when I open it. I think it's a common bug. I'm using the 128GB version.

I can't decide if its a bug or intended functionality

I believe it is an intended sleep mode that keeps the battery from draining while cover is closed. I am sure there is a way to disable, but I'm not sure what it is yet.

I think people want it to sleep, but want it then to wake on open. I saw lots of people not wanting it to do that with the surface pro, so maybe MS changed it...
