Surface Book 2 256 GB SSD Terribly Slow?

Anyone who is familiar with the Surface line knows that Microsoft has always used different SSDs for 256gb drives which have had write speeds slower than traditional HDDs. Does anyone know if this is still the case?

I would like to purchase a 15" SB2 but have no need for a larger drive, but since I would be using it for video editing on the go, there is no way I can have slow write speeds.

I have the 256 15” and I am pretty sure I got real close to 3000 read and something like 350 write. I’ll run it again tomorrow and re post what I get. I was watching mobile tech reviews review of it and she seemed to get about the same results and she is wondering if it could be needing a firmware update as she said in her review that seemed strangely slow. I’ll post my test for you tomorrow. I got a real nice mini ad card and an adapter made for surface book and really nicely added another 128 of storage. I’ll be back.

Israel I got 2336-3058 read speed and 331 write speed. I ran it 4 times and the scores fell between this range on my 15” 256 SB2. The write speed was exactly 331 all 4 times I ran it. Kind of disappointing as far as write speed goes I guess. I’d think it would be better than that on this high end of a machine. I don’t need super fast write speeds but I’m sure lots of other people like you do. Hopefully this is a firmware update solution. Hope this helps you.

As with my Dell XPS 15 you might need to turn off Windows 10’s write-cache buffer flushing to uncap the write speed, as write speeds are usually less than half when it's turned on.

Once i turned this off my write speeds more than doubled. Worth a try.

How to disable:
1).Right-click Computer in the Start menu, then select Properties.
2).Select Device Manager.
3).Select Disk drives.
4).Right-click your SSD and select Properties.
5).Under the Polices tab, check the Turn off Windows write-cache buffer flushing on the device box.

I am trying to decide between the base 15 and the 13.5 512 SSD with i7. I dont know if 256GB will be enough. I already have a 400GB micro sd card with adapter ready to go.

Those write speeds might edge me toward the 13.5 SB2 with 512GB with i7 since i don't game much and they are the same price at $2500. If the 256GB ssd write speeds are that bad.
