do you think that a Surface Book  is good enough for developers? i use VS, Eclipse, sometime SQL Management... and if you think so, what version?
Thanks!!!

I'm thinking of it myself. I usually have 16 GB systems but may go to an 8GB and have my company order the Book. The i7 16GB model is a bit pricey.

Visual Studio runs great on the Surface Pro 3. Although, it is probably the worst application to use with touch than anything else in existence, lol.

I rarely run VMs and SQL Server directly anymore (all that stuff can be visualized in the cloud) so 8GB should be plenty.

I suppose it depends on what development tools you're using, but I use VS2013/2015 professionally (8+ hours a day, often with multiple instances running) on my i7/8GB/512GB Surface Pro 3, plus Adobe Lightroom casually (4-6 hours per week). I like to be able to work offline, so I run a local SQL instance, and it's fine. Also, all of the phone emulators for VS are virtualized with Hyper-V, and they work great. I'll be picking up a Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book myself. I'm leaning toward the Surface Pro 4 i7/16GB/512GB, but the Book is very interesting.

Surface Book i7/16GB/512GB should be a beast for Visual Studio which means Eclipse should fly on even lesser specs.

Happy to read all these comments!!! I was thinking also on win10 mobile emulators and sql server instances running locally... So the option would be i7,16gb

Thank you so much

I have an SP 3, but my eyes are not what they used to be. I use Ultra Edit for coding, and it is pretty tiny on the SP3. I have it on a usb drive so hopefully the store people will let me pop it up on a Book so I can see if that will be useable. ( No software install ... runs 100% from the drive ... portable edition ).

If the resolution is good enough for these old blinkers, then I'd definitely go for the book ( larger monitor, use anywhere keyboard ).

Hopefully I can get my hands on a demo unit next week to resolve the uncertainty.

I tried a pro 4 today... The new keyboard is soooooo much better!

I've never tried Ultra Edit but Visual Studio has some fantastic customizations and zooming capabilities that make coding easy on the eyes.

If I owned a SP3 I'd probably just consider getting the new keyboard and pen. Going to see if I can get to some demo units.

It would be nice if they released new Surface 3 Typecovers to match.
