I have a Dell Inspiron 11 3135 series with Windows 8.1. It's nothing fancy but I was wondering, could Surface 2 replace it? I use my current comp to make PowerPoint presentations and write speeches for classes. I also use it for other classes, math, chemistry, psychology. None of these are heavy duty but could Surface 2 lift the weight of a college grade laptop? I guess what I'm asking is would Surface 2 work for the average college student? Thanks!

Oh and "legacy software" = just software that would needs a normal desktop

The short answer is make a list of the apps you really need and see if those are available. Account for any browser plug ins or required VPN access.

If all you need is Office, IE, and whatever apps are available in the Windows Store, then yes, the Surface 2 is an excellent laptop replacement.

I personally hope a Surface pro 3 can handle star trek online. That is the biggest thing I do
