Surface Pro 3..rant

Screen dimension. On Pro3, I have to stretch my thumbs and fingers too much to click on-screen buttons, while I'm holding the tablet with both hands.

I dont mean for this to be a snark remark but have you tried holding it with one hand and using the other to navigate the screen? I think that would easily solve the overstretching issue. I dont think the tablet is heavy at all and not that fearful of ever dropping it.

Thanks for the suggestion. But holding with two hands and using both thumbs to click is more comfortable for me over long stretches of time.
It is no doubt a very light and thin device.

I had the Pro 1 and I find the Pro 3 the sweet spot. I use my pro 3 as a productivity powerhouse for my work and school. It's simply great... I also play games and love how powerful it is in such a small package... In tablet mode it is the perfect size... Now I wish I didn't put windows 10 on it :( tablet hasn't been optimized yet for windows 10 :)

It has few apps that I use not all. But RT tablets are way too slow. With a faster Pro2 that I can use both as a tablet and laptop, I sacrifice a bit on screen size and use iphone for other apps.

Too slow? I assume you're talking about the original RT? And I'm wondering how you know a refreshed RT in the future would be too slow if it were to use, say, a K1 or the most recent Snapdragon? And if the Tegra 4 RT is too slow, you likely won't be happy with an iPad.

seems a little quick to come to judgement after less than a day for such an expensive item, how about just live with it for a few days more? you sure the charger was actually in properly? i have seen it on the 3, where it magnetizes and looks as if it's in, but its merely stuck at an angle, mine sticks in nicely (oooh err)

Original RT is unusably slow. RT2 is workable but definitely slower than similarly priced iPad. The refreshed RT, whenever it comes out, should be better. But an iPad beats RT anyday.

You are right. It seems too quick to pass a judgement but I don't want to sprain my hands more and Pro2 is serving me good.

I envy you :)

I get the feeling you just want an iPads real bad and you're justifying it by saying a refreshed RT would still be beaten by it. If you want an iPad, you don't need to justify it to anyone. Just go get it.

The surface pro 3 is awesome, yes the surface rt is slow which I do have one by the way. Everyone has their own reviews on whatever device that they have tried, etc. I enjoy both of my Surface devices.

Call me crazy but to me, a rant is someone upset about something not working properly on the device itself. What you posted was a personal preference issue, not lack of functionality.

You said you played with it, and yet, the large factor is the issue? Really? Guess if I'm going to drop North of $1300 for a device I'm going to make damn sure that it does what I want it to do.

I also played with it in a store and new right away it was bigger than normal 10 inch tablet.

I suppose I could go to Apple Forums and rant that I bought a iPhone 6 Plus but after using it didn't realize how big it was and how Apple really dropped the ball in this one...but then, I might look a little foolish doing so.

Just saying.....

I couldn't disagree more. I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro which is about the same size, but the keyboard is permanently fixed to it. You can flip it out of the way but not remove it. Personally I think its still too small even at 13". I guess I believe if its not 15" its not a laptop or a tablet. Honestly I don't like mobile that much anyway. I prefer my desktop with 3x monitors. I have dual 1080p 24" and a 27" 1440p. I would like to go to all 27" 1440p monitors, but its out of the question at the moment.

The original RT is slow at some things, but is definitely usable. The Surface 2 (RT) is very fast! Some of the tasks it does, it does much faster than a full blown computer! Not to mention RT blows away the iPad in usability and features. The only thing the iPad does better or faster than my Surface 2 is Candy Crush.

Pro3 unlike Pro2 is not a tablet. I use my Pro2 daily for a couple of hours on bed, lying flat, holding it about a foot away from my face. Pro3 is too big to fit comfortably in hands(I don't have small hands) and is too big to look at that distance.

I use my SP3 lying in bed but using the kickstand at the appropriate angle. I don't ever hold my SP3 when using it in tablet mode. It's propped up on my desk or in my lap or on a tray table. Try it that way and see if it affects your opinion of the SP3.

I love my SP3. But to me, a great tablet should be in the 1 lb range, because anything more than that and it's unpleasant to hold in my hands for any amount of time. I'm very happy with the SP3 anyway; I use the kickstand almost constantly, and that works just fine. I think we're still quite a few years away from having a device that has the SP3's power and is in the 1 lb range. Until then, I'm happy with what I've got.

Good advice. I'll try this out. Thanks!
