Morning,

Has anyone hooked up their Surface RT to a monitor or or through hdmi? Do you get an extended screen with both of them, or just the monitor? How was your experience?

Additionally, is there a way to use the PlayTo DNLA from a Lumia to a Surface?

Thanks in advance

I always use an extended monitor for productivity, or standalone for consumption unless I'm home and in bed or living room then I use hdmi to hook that bad boy up to TV! And its GREAT!

Does this mean the hdmi ALSO extends the monitor, if you so wish?

Additionally, can you use any old minihdmi-to-vga/hdmi cable, or does it have to be an MS one?

Oh, and have you tried DNLA to surface before?

I have a generic minihdmi to HDMI and it works! Option to extend, clone display or use external as primary. Haven't did anything with dlna yet, or ever for that matter ! Please explain how to use dlna to me?

It's Windows 8 - the experience is identical. You can mirror or extend. Both work fine. If you extend the desktop, the HDMI display will be at its native resolution, if not it will be at the same resolution as the Surface. Winkey-P brings up your choices.

Good stuff. I assumed so, and I have a monitor which doubles up a TV if you fancy - so I wanted to be completely sure whether to buy the hdmi or 15(or 16 pin). Hdmi it is.

Thanks all. I don't think DLNA/PlayTo works TO the surface, I think it can share to other displays on the network though.
