Reasons to leave

Hi guys!
I daily read this site and I often find interesting articles with listed and explained reasons to continue trusting Windows 10.

I'd like instead to open a thread and list some reasons that are pushing me to leave. After three years dedicated following every single development of Windows and with the idea to buy a Lumia and complete my personal ecosystem (I have a W10 pc, a surface, an android phone and I use all microsoft's services), now I need a new phone and I'm probably going to buy an iPhone...

Why?? Here are my reasons:

1- APP GAP there are articles and articles trying to convince people that there is no app gap, but if I'll go with W10 I can't have an app to use with my MTB, with my bank, at my cinema, a good travel guide. I'm not searching superfluous servicies, but also the essential ones are missing, or their quality is so bad.

2 - NEVER COMPLETE W8.1 should have been the solution to a not yet mature system like W8. It wasn't.. so W10 should complete the path.. but no, only a work in progress. So, waited for redstone1 to found all solutions, again not everything was implemented. Waiting the next spring update, or redstone2, 3, n... it seems an infinite work in progress, I could accept it but every good idea is implemented always too late or we Always need to wait an addition function that should complete it

3 - BAD QUALITY This is the most disappointing reason. When I use an app or a service on Windows it always seems not well finished, designed, functional. I'm thinking of basic included apps (mail, pictures, maps, edge, notification center, cortana, live Tiles...), I can find for every service a better one on the competitor side

3- USE IN THE CAR Clear, in a new car I can use just Android or iOS..

4 - BEAUTIFUL DEVICES This point is so subjective I know, but in terms of design I prefer a lot Apple products. In my opinion is not just an aesthetics matter but also an usability one.

So, this is a rough summary of my thinking by now.
I regret it because I really trust in the unique ecosystem that Microsoft is trying to build.
But now, buying a Windows' phone (especially out of US) could be a suicide for the use I need.

All of my girl's contacts disappeared this morning. We both sync contacts using our Outlook accounts. Never had a problem when using a WP but Android constantly gives us problems. Grrr. I can put up with it because I'm a big boy but I was legit tempted to replace her Android with an iPhone. We fixed the problem by removing the account and adding it back.

I just can't do Android anymore because of this very reason. You're right, iOS and Microsoft have no problem with PIM but Android would test Mother Teresa.

Yeah I hate that it is this way. Kind of annoying to go from all to none when it comes to this. I don't think I would ever sell my SE...unless I am getting another smaller iPhone haha.

It's in the same way how I doubt that I can ever go without a Windows phone as an option.

I've come to the conclusion that it would take something special from either iOS or Android to make me switch to them. And no, it won't be due to a missing app either.

After using my Android phone for a while, I have to admit I no longer miss Windows Phone. I haven't used my Lumia 640 for a while now. I have a feeling future developments from Microsoft are going to be highend specialist devices catering to a niche, being enterprise or non mainstream consumers. At this point in time I feel like I am not adding anything to this forums anymore so am literally on the verge of just cancelling my account here and finally wondering off into the sunset so to spreak :grin:.

I tried Windows phone twice as I always believe in giving everything a second chance but I guess I'm just not a hardcore Windows 10 Mobile fan at the end of the day.

Like many though I am still curious as to where Microsoft's strategy (if they ever really had one!) is going to end up.

Ummm... Cancelling the account is not necessary. Just wander away if that is what you want.

Or you could just go to the forum of the phone you are currently using. A number of us do that too with other phones/tablets that we might be using at the moment.

For anyone else curious about my broken phone, I got it back and all is good!

I think I'm fine being a rebel and not updating my iPhone se and my Honor 8. Call me silly but I don't care for the changes. There are very few apps on iOS that don't work on version 9.

Edit: Thank you Laura for your amazing suggestion of the Android outlook app called Nine! Finally tried it and I love it. It's so good.

Thank you. Me too. Back to using it as a phone for now.

Edit: I got my Honor 8 back and it's been an adjustment to go back to shuffling my phone in my hand again so I may or may not try a X Compact again to settle this.

Since my approach has generally been, if in doubt; do nothing, as a result, I'm still on a L920 with WP8.1, and have been resisting any change because, well, I can't see any reason to change. However, I've gotten to thinking...

I've been listening to the podcasts, and having had the L920 for over 4 years now, is it crazy talk to move up to a L950 now?

One of the most irksome things for me has been the loss of some apps in the move to W10M. Time has passed since then, and I'm not too sure it's as bad now, that is to say, it can't really be any worse can it? I think the only app that I use a lot now, which isn't available on W10M is the Here suite, but the bing maps, is a great substitute, however I don't know what the turn by turn navigation on W10M is like, in comparison.

The main thing holding me back was that it really seemed like going to W10M would have been worse, but with the looming end of support for WP8.1 in November, I probably should look to something newer. The alternative is to just go android, as much as I would prefer windows.

So to reiterate (or rephrase) the question, should I just leave the sinking ship, even though I'm reasonably happy enough with WP8.1 at this stage (yes there are problems) but there are some better apps on W10M now which are receiving support. So should I look into a L950, or just go android and be done with it?

I would suggest that you should give the 950 a try. If you can buy from a retailer that allows you to try it out for a bit, do that and see how it goes for you.

Before that, feel free to ask questions about the kind of apps that you use. There are some nice ones that are only on W10M.

L950 Gone but no regrets.

Recently I joined then left the platform, my time using the 950 was around 3 months and I had been on Android from day1.
Firstly I would like to state that I am not writing this to have a dig at MS or anyone else for that matter just updating you all with my personal experience.
When I sold my 950 (because I had become unhappy with the OS and quirky instabilities) I reverted back to my standby phone this was a £15 Alcatel pixi and was not good enough as a DD (daily driver) but it got me by.
Yesterday I bought another (Temporary) device a Samsung Galaxy J1 -Entry level Android and I am astounded by the performance.
I can honestly say this device with far lower specs than the 950 runs faster and smoother, everything is super quick and no delays at all. This has come as a huge surprise because as I say its just a better daily driver but I have to admit its more than good enough.

I am shocked that a phone (entry level) can out preform a flagship device in many ways for normal use and daily use, I have not had 1 single delay or hiccup with this basic device.
It also records in HD and the pictures at 5mp are very decent but nothing like the 22mp on the 950, obviously the 950 is superior but its performance issues bring it right down the scale in terms of how good it is.
I have not missed the 950 except the camera.
My J1 cost me £90 and I bought it as a stop gap until the Nokias come to the UK but its performing so well particularly with multitasking that I am temped to keep it longer.
Honestly shocked at the performance of this basic Android and if I still had my 950 I would do side by side app and usage comparison's, you would see for yourself that the 950 would fall behind in most scenario's.
I am sorry but the 950 is no longer a flagship nor top of the range, its about daily use speed and stability, I can lock on to gps in less than 5 seconds on the budget device, the 950 was over 10 seconds, ??
I can load Messenger in 2 seconds and the 950 was 7 to 10 seconds??
This is a basic comparison but it does not need to be any more in-depth than daily usage functions.
I would advice anyone considering the 950 to think again because a £90 android can run circles around the £250 L950.
Honest non bias posting here and I really wanted the 950 to be great, its just too slow and quirky instability.

I agree that the 950 is a little slow compared to other flagships. Not that a few seconds makes or break my day, but still it is noticeable. Now my Alcatel Idol4s can take on any flagship. Very fast and fluid.

I agree that the 950 is a little slow compared to other flagships. Not that a few seconds makes or break my day, but still it is noticeable. Now my Alcatel Idol4s can take on any flagship. Very fast and fluid.

The difference between our Idol's 820 and the 950's 808 is as wide as the Sargasso Sea. To be fair, the heating and throttling issues are not limited to the 950s. The 808/810 were not Qualcomm's finest hour.
