I ran across some new tap to pay options under NFC settings in Update 2 (running on a 1520.3 w/ Denim and installed using the Windows Insider app). I was just wondering if you guys had any thoughts on it. I know it's rumored to be coming to WP10, but I'm pretty stoked to see it in Update 2 for 8.1. It doesn't seem to do anything at all as for as I can tell. I don't notice any differences in the Wallet app. Maybe Microsoft is planning to release a new update via the store? I'm not sure if the Wallet app is still native in Update 2. Hopefully we will see some announcements about this during the Build conference.

That's not a new Update 2 feature, I currently have it on my 920 running Denim and I'm sure it was part of 8.1 too

Any common/everywhere merchants using this feature where it works with WP?

Not yet in the US, I know some merchants in Europe use it (or at least pledged to use during launch)

I actually think Google's acquisition of Softcard may have opened things up a bit in the US for Windows Phone as far as carriers go, but only time will tell. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Its been there since 8.0

Up here in Canada you need an NFC sim card, a bank credit card and the bank app.
All tied together it should work, but it only seems to be limited to specific devices.

And its mainly a handful of android devices and some blackberries.

Not to mention there is no banking app from any bank (except I think RBC) for WP.

Win 10 is rumored to be bringing a baked in option for tap-to-pay that requires no App and no "secure" SIM.
