What are the consequences of using a non Qi charging mat?

Will any inductive charging mat work? I know there are benifits to the Qi standard, but can you only use Qi mats?

If not Qi, it won't work. The Qi standard establishes plate location and signal strength, etc...

Lol, I have a PowerMat, and I'd love to try it out (even though I doubt it'll work), but unfortunately I don't think any B&M store in my local area has a cyan 920. And even if they did, they probably wouldn't sell it to me at the no-commitment price.

I read that Powermat doesnt use Qi and is proprietary.

You will have to use a Qi compliant charger.

I have the energizer dual one and it doesn't look so bad.

except for that big fat Energizer logo across the top! Is that part even part of the charging surface?

Here's a pic.
