Tempted but they're not quite there yet

You have over a hundred gigs of apps?

*edit* I'm wasting too much time in this thread - time to unfollow.

Out of the box MS found it prudent to provide less that 100gig available, so I'm not touching that used space. On my PC, I separate drive c for apps and drive d for storage, and yes, my drive c has over 80gigs used.

hasn't been an issue for me. I have done 100gb on my desktop, but that includes several games I haven't touched in months and could easily delete and reinstall if I ever wanted.

That's really what it boiled down to for me. my default config is really just office apps and a few spreadsheet programs that are not that significant.

It would be pretty interesting to see someone actively use 100gb worth of programs on a regular basis in a 10" laptop. but to each their own, for the fraction of the population that can really claim this as a necessity, the surface is not for them.

The battery life will increase when the newer battery-included Type Covers come. I don't think it will ever get past 7 hours for a core i5 Machine. We'll have to wait to Haswell for 9+ hours.

Are they definitely making these? I have heard rumors but nothing concrete.

I've installed Office 2013, Visual Studio Express, Adobe CS6 (pretty much the entire suite), & a handful of metro apps & games. I still have 60GB free.

I just don't understand the storage space concerns. No, you can't store your 100GB music collection on it. And if you want to have a lot of full-desktop games (5-10GB each) installed at the same time you could run into problems. But for most users, it shouldn't be a problem.

Well what did you expect? If we had the technology to make "regular" laptops last as long as a tablet, wouldn't we have seen it already?

I know what you mean though, it seems like Windows 8 was created for hardware that doesn't exist yet. I think you're waiting for Haswell and the Bay Trail (next gen Atom), and I guess for SSD storage to become cheaper.

Yep, I'm really looking forward to grabbing one of these babies running on a haswell chip. Once they do, they'll have nailed it :)
