So with all this chat recently about connecting our tablets via our phones to the web I have a question for those in the UK like me on EE.. Alot of the information here is about US networks understandably, who have various data restrictions placed upon them but im curious how straightforward it is to hook my Surface2 up to the web over my 4G plan on EE? I dont want to rinse my 3gb data plan of course when the time comes that i have to tether, so what sort of usage could i expect for a bit of 'light browsing' when tethered? I'm not normally out of Wifi range when using my Surface2 so I've not done the internet sharing thing before.. Any pointers would be welcome :)

It's pretty straightforward on EE and most (I won't say all cause I don't know) UK providers. It's part of your data plan.

On you WP you simply go to Settings -> Internet sharing. Set it up the way you want and that's all. On your Surface find the name you gave your WiFi hotspot and connect. Simple.

Speed will depend on your signal strength.

On surface 2 - also make sure you go to settings - network - select your tethered phone - and see that "metered connected" switch is turned on. This way it prevents usage from the phone as if it was a broadband connection. You may not get fastest tethering but it will turn off unnecessary usage of internet in background. If you turn off metered connection toggle in that page, you will use data as if you are connected to broadband.

Thank you guys. Clears it up for me. I will be curious to see how it is when/if i need it.
