This is ok for using email and text. But when using some apps with smaller fonts, getting the cursor to drop exactly where you need it to be is a pain in the arse.
Hi, this is Udonis Haslem (love the sig). There was a patch to add arrows on webOS for the TouchPad. I'm wondering if this would work on the WP virtual keyboard? The Quantum has arrows on the physical keyboard.

One feature I'm missing... ConnectiUnlock. I mean the Android one with the 3x3 square of dots, and you swipe a pattern into it. I had that on my Desire Z, by far my favourite way of unlocking a phone. It just felt natural.

Small but essential features missed on WP

Hi there,

sometimes i'm getting a little fruststrated with my Lumia 900 because of the following missing features. I'd like to update my following list with stuff you're missing too and if someone got the information or confirmation that this stuff will get adressed in wp8, i'll remove/check it.
But basically i'm writing this in the hopes you guys know a way to do this stuff:

  1. Paste Number in Call App
  2. Auto-Highlight Numbers in Browser to enable "Tab-To-Call"
  3. Screenshot
  4. Resume an opened App if not started from MultiTaskingMenu
  5. Daily Live-Tile Updates. I pinned Websites to the StartScreen and they still show "Screenshots" from months ago - even though i use it every day
  6. enable albums (created on the phone) in the photo hub
  7. People Hub Bugs (Multiple Contacts - same name, no information or extra contacts with only birthdays in)
  8. Direction in Maps (turn the map to the direction i'm looking/holding the phone)
  9. Back Button: if i pin a specific part of an App to the startscreen and open the app via this, there is no way to go back within the app (that one is ridiculously annoying). Same if an app opens a specific feature from an other app. I love that we're able to pin so much to the start, but then i need a freakin button to go back within the app. The OS-wide back button not usefull to me at all.
  10. Better Calendar list
  11. Built-in alarms like on iOS - and boot up the phone to ring the alarm if it gets turned off at night (yes, other phones do that)
  12. stop WiFi from disconnecting while on standby/screen off (yes, i have the app for that but i don't like starting that app all the time)
  13. If i do something like upgrading an App and it reads "waiting" on the screen, the process pauses/cancels if i press the home button before the "waiting" period ends. WP should be able to multitask so it should perform the "waiting" period in the background.
  14. Save stuff pulled from integrated profiles like FB or Twitter directly into the Windows Live contact (so that it's still present when i remove the integration)
  15. Remove specific information pulled from integrations (like wrong numbers or wrong birthdays specific contacts provided on e.g. facebook)
  16. Contact Suggestions: If i write a text or call someone, change the suggested contacts! People i regularly call on top of the list and the offline facebook contacts all the way at the bottom! Also if i type "si", don't show me "Dennis", show me "Simon"!
  17. Deleting contacts show weird behaviour. Especially if you delete a lot of them (like i had to, when suddenly contacts appeared multiple times). The screen just jumps in the list. And the contact needs to long to get removed.
  18. beeing able to check the battery without quitting an app (swiping down from the top doesnt work in all apps - correct me if i'm wrong)
  19. Pin playlists or other screens from the zune app (music + videos) to the start screen.

to be continued...

I know there probably were a lot of posts like this (i actually don't know), but if someone can help me with those issues of knows if they get fixed, i'd love if you'd let me/us know here.
Are you guys having problems with those issues as well?

I didn't check the whole list, but I know you can already do numbers 8 and 19.

11 - only phone that ever did that was my BlackBerry devices. In fact, that was my biggest gripe with the iPhone when I started using an iPhone alongside by BlackBerry.

14 I would not want. I only want integration as long as I choose. I don't want my device to write all this extra data into my MS contacts.

1 & 2. Most times in browsing or email or in a text, a valid telephone number is automatically seen as such, and highlighted to allow you to touch it, to make a call.

18. While it should perhaps be a setting, the app author has the option to show the system tray or not. I see the case for not always showing that, some apps need to be full screen.

1. I want to mute the media sound but not having to mute all other things also! Biggest drawback over android IMHO.
2. Text wrapping in browser
3. When swiping to the left having all my notifications and shortcuts for WiFi,airplane mode,... Why just using the swipe to right gesture?
I have forgotten my other ideas, brb when I get them :)

Sent from my Lumia 800 using Board Express

It's been said a million times, but a unified notification center.
I impulse purchased a Nexus 7 last week. I'm not crazy about android, and I keep thinking how cool it would be to have a windows 8 rt tablet in this 7 inch form factor.
But, having all of your notifications in one place; from games, 3rd party apps, email, etc; and being able to click on them to go to the new item, is amazing. AMAZING.

I would like the contacts to integrate all together when I tell them to link. Not sure why that could be a bad thing. I have some people that have 5 linked accounts to their name.

Every nokia before they went to windows did this i'm not sure but i think the n9 also did this, and the 808 does this. symbian pretty much does everything any OS ever did and then some the only reason it was dumped is people found it confusing and tideous to use but functionally the most complete OS ever made.

As for #13, that is the app store getting all the information for the download. It does the same thing in the W8 store. It keeps you from going back to the store because it is getting the info for the download. Now once it gets that, it will go back to the rest of the store and download the file.

I see a quick settings tile :)

We need a "toggle" tile. Wifi for example, just tap the tile on the home screen to turn it on or off, no need to go into any menus at all.

I feel like MS is holding back on these features on purpose so they can use them to sell future updates. Which is a stupid move IMO when we can already do it on the competitors OS ...

Some of you may be better off skipping WP8 and going with an OS that fits your needs better to save on any future "wp sucks because it doesn't" threads....:dry

I agree. Android, IOS nor WP7/8 is for everyone. I don't want the market driven by tekkies who want more capability but that for the masses is a waste of time and resources. I had the Trophy then went to Android including the Sammy S3 and am now back to the Trophy.

There are some minor things that I use that could be improved but keep in mind; I still have these items to use now. The one big thing I miss from Windows 7/8 is the ability to directly interface with MS own product, Outlook. I see something in WP8 that says Device Center but don't know if this is added or not. I find it truly rediculous to have to sync with a third party program or Android.

Just my 2 cents.

That's a stupid reaction, just because you like a platform doesn't mean there is no room for improvement. Some of these features NEED to be integrated in the OS if MS want it to be successfull.
