The Hard Choice : lumia 820 or 720

You want a phone for five years.....? Its strange.. but anyway you said that you want to choose between lumia 720 and 820. if u want a greater performance so you should go for lumia 820 because it has a very powerful 1.5 ghz dual core processor paired with 1gb of ram .while 720 has only 1 ghz dual core processor with 512 mb of ram . Talking about gpu the 820 has adreno 225 and 720 has a new series adreno 305 gpu . Boath performs well in gaming and watching hd videos .But there is a point to note that lumia 820 has an amoled display which will give you a vibrant performance in colours , the lumia 720 has a ips lcd display which is not vibrant like 820. both phones have 480*800 pixel resolutions but because of amoled 820 is better. but there is another thing about display , the lumia 720 has corning gorilla glass 2 protection which makes your display stronger , there is no protection given to lumia 820. If you want a stronger glass then go for lumia 720,If you want a vibrant display then go for lumia 820.talking about camera the lumia 720 is the best camera smartphone in the midrange smartphones. It has a 6.7 mp camera with carl zeiss lance, lumia 820 has a 8.7 mp camera with carl zeiss lance but because of low light performance the lumia 720 is ahead of 820.the lumia 720 can shoot hd videos but lumia 820 can shoot full hd videos but still 720 is much much better than 820.talking about design the lumia 720 is very good looking phone, the built qulity is good. it has unibody .talking about 820 we can change the shells. There are different shells available in the market you have to buy them separately. The battery of 720 is better than 820 because it is of 2000 mah and lumia 820 has only 1630 mah ,but the battery is not the thing to compare these phones because the ips lcd display of 720 consumes more power then amoled of 820. the weight is another factor to discuses the lumia 820 is heavier than 720 so it feels premium according to me ..: smile: but if you want a slim and low weight phone then go for 720.
So the conclusion is if you want a great performance then go for 820 and if you want a great camera and built quality then go for 720.....!

Well, I had a 720 for a few days, then I had a problem in the vol plus button and I exchange it for a 820.

Both phones are much different from each other, much much different.
While the 720 is much more beautiful, has a much better battery, better camera and Gorilla Glass, the 820 is all about performance, its a lot faster, a lot.

Another point is that the headphones that come with the Lumia 820 are good phones, the ones that you get with 720 are a piece of **** xD

720 just looks (like HTC 8X) good.
820 has good hardware and when I mean, I mean fantastic.

Also +1 for the headphone comment above me.

No one is addressing the battery life of the 720. What are we to do when the battery starts to weaken, and thus requires more frequent tethering to a power supply? Is there a provision where the phone can be sent somewhere to have its battery replaced?
That's what I need to know.

I had the same dilemma a few months back. Was having difficulty choosing between the 820 and 720 that I had to make my own excel chart of pros and cons to help me decide. LOL!

Lumia 720

Advantages

- 2000 mAh battery
- 1.3 MP Front Camera
- Corning Gorilla Glass 2
- Sleeker, Slimmer body
- f1.9 Aperture (more light)

Disadvantages

- 512mb RAM only
- 1 Ghz Processor
- IPS LCD display

Lumia 820

Advantages

- 1GB RAM
- 1.5 Ghz Processor
- AMOLED
- LTE
- 8 MP Camera
- 1080p Video Capture
- Removable Battery

Disadvantages

- 1650 mAh only (but battery is replacable)
- Poor VGA front camera
- bulky compared to 720
- Scratch Resistant

If you're into phone gaming then the 820 is the one to buy. The Windows store has some games that won't run on a 512mb device. User Interface fluidity should be the same on both 512mb & 1Gb devices.

After much deliberation and research, I found the Lumia 822 which I believe merges the 720 and 820 into one neat package. It is Verizon locked however and it's not easy to unlock which was crucial because I live in the Philippines.

Happy with my decision. :winktongue:

820 has better performance.

Next Lumia line-up will have 1GB RAM to all devices i think (even successors of 620 , 720 etc.)

720 will become low-end phone , 820/920 become mid range , newer devices become high end in terms of performance.

If you play a lot of games, then go with the 820, if you are a news/ social oriented get the 720 (and keep in mind, only a couple of games don't run on the Lumia 720).
In addition you must know that at some point, the 820 will get updates probably the 720 wont (in about a year and a half), but sense you saved about $100 you will sell your 720 at that point, pay the difference and get a brand new mid range maybe something called 730 or 740..
Its obvious that I have a Lumia 720 right :P

I think one of the most crucial aspects of future proofing a Smartphone is the battery: It will need to be changed every 18 months approx. So, 820.

720 do not have a better camera. Like I say in other topic, is a very nice one, but 820 is better. Not too much, but is better.

I have both here in office.

AMOLED of 820 is way better than 720 LCD IPS. 720 looks like a impressionism art, with a lot of pixels visible. 820 have no problem with those things.
