Thoughts on Apple iPhone from a WP User...

I own a 820 and with cyan/8.1 on it , it's outstanding. I don't feel the 830 is much of a upgrade to it however so I bought a Moto G LTE as a backup to my 820. I wanted to keep up with Android in case Microsoft does not come out with something better. I use both phones and like them both, but I believe the 820 is the better phone. My tablets are Android also (Kindle Fires). But unless Microsoft does not come out with something better than the 820 it would not bother me to get a higher up Android phone. Don't want too, but my 820 is two years old, need a upgrade. Windows or Android which will it be.

I was tired of waiting. I got a 920 at the start. The first update Portico made my phone freeze. Once I got that sorted out there was nothing new. I was till waiting for tiles to update like they should. I was still waiting for phantom battery drain to stop. I was still waiting. It's not about a quick fix. It's about sitting by and not hearing nothing and when an update does come IT DOES NOTHING TO BETTER THE OS AND PROVIDE BETTER FUNCTIONALITY. Nothing. WP was a massive letdown and the $450 I spent on a 920 was a massive letdown too. At some point you need to look at things objectively and stop with the "it can only get better." You need to ask, "have they done anything?" People on this forum have been saying it will get better for years now and it really doesn't sound like it has. In the end you use what device is best suited for you and if it is a low marketshare phone, more power to you but sitting and railing on Apple isn't going to make Microsoft stop sitting on their hands. Acknowledging that your phone is an incremental upgrade yet bashing Apple for having an incremental upgrade...doesn't that seem hypocritical to you all? At all?

Use what is best for you and take a good look at the brand you support and what it has done when criticizing Apple. I guess that is my main suggestion for you all. Just enjoy your phone is second. Don't call people sheep when they are using what is best for them like you is third.

Have a good day.

I find it funny how MAD people on this forum get when others here speak their opinion about the platform. Why cant we all take someone opinions (negative or positive) with some common sense and not get hysterical? Thats why there are debates, people have their own opinions and this is a Phone Wars section.

Now i move on to give my opinion.

For every single person who says their Windows Phone has NEVER once lagged since updating to 8.1, i find it hard to believe. Maybe it was the poor processing power of my L1020 but man did 8.1 cause a lot of "Resuming...", choppy animations and plain black freezing screens. Maybe it was my model, but my buddy with a L1020 experienced similar situations. None the less, it wasnt as laggy as my S3 running 4.0. But for me:

WP 7 = Lag Free
WP 8 = Lag Free, although horrible random battery draining
WP 8.1 = 90% Lag Free, animations choppy going in/out start screen, black screens frequently,

Why am i mentioning this? My experiences with iOS are 100% lag free, I use my wifes iPhone 5 here and there...and i had an iPhone 5S for 8 months and wow talk about a smooth OS. Sure its as boring as a UI can get but solid performance.

I am back on Android now with a Nexus 5, so by no means a high end phone. So FAR (as in just on day 4 of use lol) its solid. But then again, we know over time Androids do have a habit of getting slow...but thats why i went with stock Android this time. I am hoping it can hold up and offer a very good experience but only time will tell.

The 830 is obviously a better phone than the moto g and only a noob only values their phone by reading a speck list. Even without mentioning the much better camera on the 830, the build quality is worlds apart, the screen will be better (even if they have the same resolution), it has wireless charging and obviously windows phone will run better on it than android on the moto g. To call 300 and something dollars apple price is just stupid.

It better be better at being nearly twice the price. It is foolish to compare across price groups often times unless its clear they are going after that market. A better comparison would be the hardware wise is a phone equally or close to equal price. As for the 830 its going after the mid range trying to say its an affordable flagship. But you are right you cannot compare specs because its different platforms its also why I find the iPhone vs the Galaxy S5 spec comparisons annoying. I would argue your choice of ecosystem is about 90% of what is important about a phone. Once you know that then you can compare hardware within that system. There is a few features that can go across the board but only a few most are basically the Screen Size; the Battery Life (Not size); And the Camera and maybe a few other sensors and auxiliary features that go across the board that are more niche. But comparing the processors and ram is I agree a fools errand.

That being said when I made my jump I looked hard at what Windows Phone offered me as an OS and what hardware was available and I was not happy at the choice I had available to me. Like I said I have the 1020; the 630; and the 1520 that works with my carrier. The 830 coming down the road but from a 920 its practically a downgrade except in screen size which was literally the only appealing thing to me. So then I evaluated the OS and while it was a very hard decision I knew I could probably jump ship. And you know what? After jumping i still use a lot of MS services and some of them like my two factor authentication? It works better on android! Go figure that one out. I do miss my live tiles and I miss how well outlook integrated but Cyanogen does a great job with AES so it works.

With all respect due to Nokia, who was a great company who was just too slow to see the paradigm shift caused by the iPhone, Microsoft is going to screw it up. It's blatantly obvious Microsoft's corporate culture is incredibly arrogant, and sheltered. After 4 years, they're just now putting features like a notification center and separate volume controls into their OS. Think about that. Those are features that were in Android and iOS from day one. They're things that are blatantly obvious needed features. It's like whoever designed the current Windows Phone OS had never used a smart phone before, had never even used, or looked at an iPhone or Android. Look at the Settings menu in WPOS. Who OK'd it? There's no rhyme or reason to the organization. Alphabetization has been going on since before the printed word, and it doesn't occur to them it might be a good idea there? They used in the contact list, and the apps list. Why not there.

I digress. Back to Nokia. The latest offerings (630/5, 730/5, 830) shows Microsoft is clueless in this respect, as well. The 830, which basically has the same specs as a Moto G, is priced TWICE as expensive as the Moto G. Does it sound smart to you that a company with less than 3% global market share is charging twice as much as their main competitor? Microsoft's hubris at failing to admit that they are not Apple, and cannot charge Apple prices has led to the failure of Windows Phone, and the Surface, too.

I like my Windows Phone. I'd like it more if Verizon would release Cyan/8.1. But I also realize that Windows Phone is a dead. It's just too little, too late. I'll keep my phone until it dies, but I won't be buying another one. As much as I hate Google for their strong arming and invasive policies, I'll be an Android. And I really wish I didn't have to.

Errr... no?

iOS hasn't had a notification center since day one. I think Android might have, not sure, but is definitely didn't. Also, if you hate that Verizon isn't giving you 8.1/Cyan, why move to Android where the update situation is as bad and sometimes worse?
