I'm not sure if there is a forum here where it is most relevant, so I thought I'd post it here.
In writing a children's app for WP8 I ran into an issue with creating a sound effects manager. The documentation and tutorials are still pretty poor on it, and to make it even more confusing, WP uses XNA for audio, but the old XNA content pipeline doesn't exist.
Long story short: you can't use .mp3 as a sound effect unless you are playing it through a media element. You need to use .wav, but I haven't found any tutorials which explicitly state this, so I wrote one of my own. I hope it helps!
