I know, I know... I could search for these. But what fun would that be?

1) How does one transfer images from my PC to the phone? I tried to install drivers when I plugged the phone in via the data cable, but it still doesn't show up on the list of drives on my PC. Come to think of it, how does one transfer any kind of file? I also can't find a way to detect the microSD card.

2) I have my home wifi set up to not broadcast its name. Usually I see it show up on the list of available networks anonymously, and then I manually enter the name and password to get in, but my Samsung Focus doesn't seem to pick it up. Any recommendations on how to proceed?

I read a couple articles about issues with microSD but they were from last year and I can't tell if the issues have been fixed.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

ps - i actually did try a couple searches but didn't have much luck. i don't have a user manual, either.

1 - Pictures >> From 'Device Name" (for pics) ... Try using DropBox, using BoxFiles (for files)

2 - I have no issues connecting to my wifi, but I have my SSID visible. Have you tried to make it visible to see if that's your issue?

You sync your media; photos, video and music to your PC via Zune.desktop. You need to tell Zune in settings to copy photos down to your phone. You can't see your SD card because all the memory on your device gets merged into one bucket, thus no need for a file explorer to move files from one folder to another. It's all just there.

And as noted, on a Focus you can't see a hidden SSID. This will be corrected with Mango in the Fall and HTC devices now have an app as a workaround for now.

Cool, thanks for the feedback, all. Trying Zune now and the only quibble I have is that you have to name the folder on your PC, and then it gets copied over to the phone, along with the same folder hierarchy. I guess I got used to the WebOS setup, which is a bit less desktop-centric. Nevertheless, I'm loving WP7. Radically original design with great usability, and quite pleasing to the eye. I can see it getting top market share in a few years' time.

duvi, I live in a densely populated condo complex with a lot of traffic so I'm paranoid but maybe I'll change the SSID settings just to do my app downloads.

Looking forward to Mango.

Cheers!

Yeah, even if it's to see if that's the problem and go right back.

Mango is what I'll be waiting for.

MAC filtering should help keep you secure. And what device do you have. HTC has an app that allows you to see hidden networks.

Suddenly Zune won't detect my phone when it's plugged into the PC. Any of you had this problem too?
Have to ask. You didn't try any tethering tricks, did you. That would disable USB sync.

I have had this happen to me a couple of times but just FYI my PC is a POS so a reboot of the POS usually fixes it.

Didn't try any tethering tricks that I know of. Now it's working on my desktop but not my laptop (both running Vista).

One thing I do remember is when I first started plugging in the phone, my laptop would ask me how to search for drivers for the device. I'd select the recommended choice, then Vista would start searching for drivers but never find any. After a while I got sick of this and clicked on the "never ask for this device again" button. After that, Zune stopped detecting the phone.

I didn't do that on the desktop, yet today I plugged it into the desktop and it detected it again. Weird. Hope this wonkiness is an aberration.
