Ugh! Updating Microsoft Maps is driving me NUTS

I am trying to download the Microsoft Maps map update. It's 3 gig, not surprising. But the bloody screen times out at 5 minutes and when it does it stops the update. And when I restart it, it starts over! There seems to be no way to either keep the screen on or to tell it to keep going then the phone goes to sleep. I can't sit here and tap the phone every four minutes and 59 seconds. Help?

Have you tried plugging it in? I d/l mine and it kept working even when the screen went black.

What's the difference between Microsoft maps and HERE Maps?
I didn't even notice Microsoft Maps until the 8.1 developer update.

The Bing Maps and Here Maps share map data, it wouldn't make any sense to have two huge sets of off-line map data.

Also, to the original poster, I noticed the same thing as you. HOWEVER, even though it appears to start over, it doesn't really. The progress bar starts back at zero, but the time remaining always goes down. So I just plugged it in, since it takes forever to download the map update, and it eventually finished downloading the maps.

Have you thought about just downloading just the maps you need instead of all of them? You can download by country, region, or state/province.

It'll save you a whole bunch of space on your phone.
