Due to MS I can not walk back and forth to my desktop pc like I used to with this it would make my life so much easier. Plus, the specs and and size are just awesome.

hey there, i agree with the size point. my laptop is 15 inches and although im used to that screen size, i can work with an ~13.5 inch screen. not a major difference. also, glad to hear the surface laptop would make your life easier! its a desktop tower, monitor, keyboard, and mouse in 1 so carrying this lightweight pc would be a great way to increase productivity especially for you.

For me it's about having a high quality Windows 10 device manufactured by the OS developers themself. I still think Microsoft hardware will improve how people think about MS in general.

hey bdbch. microsoft set the bar for other OEMS to come out with similar products. in some cases like usb-c microsoft is getting beat, but im sure its okay to them. the surface line is just a benchmark to tell others "this is what you can do, why not be creative?" (thinking about that alcantara fabric and the hidden speakers in particular).

Looks like a great device, and something I can set up my dev environment on that is small and easy to transport

hey there, cool! what apps do you develop? i dont develop apps so i cant speak about that area, but the looks of the device are beautiful and it would be fun to work on in company meetings etc.

Just checked out the Surface Laptop in person at a Microsoft store. Very attractive hardware design and size. Likely inspired by the MacBook, but just as nice, IMO. For students in high school or even college, this seems like a very solid choice. If I were going to buy a laptop as backup to my desktop PC, I'd consider the Surface Laptop (gold or silver, but all the colors are nice). The Dell XPS 13 still looks great too.

ooooooh lucky andrew. im so envious of you. thats great that you liked what you saw when you interacted with the surface laptop! im sure the thinness and weight were inspired by macbook air, since two of the things apple bragged about with the macbook air was its thinness and weight (its in the name "air). before the surface laptop was announced and before the lenovo 720 was announced a few months ago, i was really considering the dell xps 13 inch also. decisions decisions.... but isnt it nice to have a "tough" problem like this? :p

Portability

Convenience

Lack of a kickstand so your legs won't hurt after writing an essay for hours.

There are lots of reasons, really. ??????

hey julian, the kickstand was one of the things that put me off of buying the surface pro 4. i like to use the computer on my lap and it just didnt seem like it would be comfortable to use. also, i did like that a type cover option is available as im not a fan of typing on a big screen, but the keyboard is held at an angle by magnetics. im sure its okay on a table because a table is not moving, but i was concerned that movement from my legs would constantly disengage the magnets and id have to keep adjusting the keyboard. anyone have any experience with this?

Moving your legs shouldn't be a problem, unless you go overboard like a baby throwing a fit.

I find lack of kickstand as a disadvantage since the screen wobbles a lot more without the kickstand if you're using a pen.

hey kaktus, a kickstand would be good for function, but a lack of it in a laptop is more aesthetically pleasing. as for writing on the screen, if youre just taking down notes (doing something other than detailed drawing) then the pen sensitivity wouldnt matter that much so i think you could get by with just lightly writing on the screen to reduce wobble.

But for the same specs and price, you can get the new Surface Pro if you want a kickstand. Otherwise it looks better without one when it comes to a laptop

I know, but it would be more friendly for people that prefer laptops over 2-in-1s but would still like to use the pen.

for me a the most important reason to buy a MSFT product in the surface line is the support.
you are getting the hardware and software from the same company so ii expect it to have the best support there.
