Unable to Switch off Nokia Lumia 720.

I guess I have found the solution to this issue. I am using a 720 for the past 10 days and was facing the same problem, but then one night I turned off the 'MOBILE DATA' and then switched the phone off...and voila! it turned off without a glitch!! :D , to be sure , I turned it on again, then turned on the mobile data and switched off the phone..but it restarted...then as a last step to be certain, I turned off the mobile data and switched off the cell once more..and it turned off easily.....so that is it! turn off the mobile data before u turn off the phone

Yep. That seems to work for me too. Excellent find.

Hi you!

Easy to do, don't worry. Let activity flight mode funtion and then turn off your mobile as normal practice. that is OK.

Best regards,
Trung

Ok guys I updated my Lumia 720 to GDR3 developer edition, but the phone doesn't switch off !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
only restart

I have tried every thing in this thread but nothing work.

any one have a fix for this issue ???????

I don't know about this "problem" of yours. WP just don't stay off. That is, unless you have the 8X or 8S with GDR3.

I think it's just how WP is designed by default

No it's not. The phone stayed off just fine before the Amber/GDR2 update. After Amber/GDR2 update the phone would routinely restart itself when you switch it off. After Black/GDR3 update the phone switches off and stays off as it originally did. So there is an issue with Amber/GDR2.

Please note, all Lumia Windows Phone 8 phones turn on and stay on when they are charging - ie. you can't switch them off if they are plugged in to the wall charger or a PC. But this is by design, and not what this thread is talking about. This thread is about not being able to turn the phone off when it is not plugged in.

Good, so you have the same problem!
It's ridiculous that you can't turn your phone off when charging. Why the hell??? Some people WANT to do so...thank you ms

iPhones used to do this too. Put it in airplane mode if you don't want notifications while it's charging.

Both iPhones and Android phones with Li-ion or Li-Polymer batteries switch on when charging as well. The difference is that they don't initialize the GUI when they do. They need to turn on because the phone circuitry must be powered up and active in order to monitor and control the battery charging process. Switching a WP8 phone to Airplane mode and turning the screen off effectively puts it into a state that is equivalent to that of iPhones and Android phones when they are "off" during charging.

So bottom line - no smartphone with a lithium-based battery is truly off when charging.

And BTW, the "problem" this thread is talking about is being able to turn the phone off when it is NOT charging - something you can certainly do with (properly functioning) Windows Phones.

yes I know, that's what I mean with "off". But thank you for you long explanation :)

Still I like the behavior of the androind and iPhones, its "normal". I think HTC or huawai stay off when they getting charged. So its Nokia :(

To the problem:
There is not much to say here other than their phones are fault, right...?
