Unlocking the Tmobile 925

My mother in law wants to switch to Metro PCS, because they have an excellent $10 Mexico calling plan that you can add to your normal plan. I want to buy a T-Mobile 925 for her off Ebay or something, so she can have a nice Windows phone. Will it work? This thread seems to provide conflicting info.

Yes, it will work because T-Mobile owns MetroPCS. Because Metro is an MVNO of T-Mobile, there's no need to have the phone unlocked.

Thanks! That's what I thought. That said, it does seem strange that the poster above, ajaykc, had difficulties doing this. Also, the 925 doesn't show up in Metro PCS's compatible phone list, although it wouldn't exactly shock me if the list wasn't up to date.
