Update of Music app out today?

I'm finding with Xbox Pass it's perfectly usable, just slow and buggy.

Also, I hope they add back in stuff like Recently played; New, etc.

I'm betting the state of the Xbox music app and the podcast app were the reason that the release of 8.1 was pushed back until the 14th. While I do agree that the music app is currently pretty awful, the anger just befuddles me. Updates are coming. And hopefully the app will quickly leapfrog where the Windows 8.0 music hub was in terms of functionality.

To be honest, Xbox music beta has been out since last December. For those who paid $99 to use their music pass service, should they get a usable app on their windows phone? 8.1 is not an excuse when 8.0's app is equally bad. Saying preview makes it sound like we had a usable solution in previous years, unfortunately, we didn't.
Saying preview makes it sound like this is what we're starting with, let's see where your feedback can get us.

Well yeah.. No one was forced to install the 8.1 update, but they have been really slow with the update. The official update should've been hit by now. I mean they are really moving at snail's pace. If they want to defeat iOS and Android, they gotta move their arses really fast. What makes me sad that MSFT has the potential but doesn't use it. Just see at the situation they are in. All the reviewers and all the persons use Windows for their work, and still they say bad things about MSFT. The largest tech company, and everyone is spitting things about them. How come MSFT be so stubborn?? Don't they get angry or something. It makes me really sad..
The bigger the company, the slower the process. Do your homework, look up how android and iOS looked 2 years after first release..

Agreed 100%! I don't know what happened in the past couple of months and especially after the 8.1 Dev Preview but the forums exploded with nothing but whining and crying. Updates are coming folks!

...

I can only imagine what it would be like if everyone complaining started out with WP7.0 like I did!! Sheesh...

Well kudos to You, sir. I only found out about WP when it was Mango already. The L800 was love at first sight  (actually the N9, but that boat had sailed by then) ;)

So you'd buy a car without ABS, airbag, etc. 'cause "hey! Just look up how cars looked in their first years!"
ROTFL

android - volkswagen - for the people, by the people, boring
iOS - BMW - fancy, expensive, uncomfortable
WindowsPhone - Citroen - innovative, against the current, quirky

If the current Ford Focus has an airbag one would assume the next generation Focus would have and airbag too. It is totally reasonable for us to assume that Win 8.1 preview would at least have a basic music app that would work with your local music collection since WP8 had one. The frustration to me is totally justified in my opinion. This pattern has me a bit worried about Microsoft actually-they did the same thing with the Xbox One-released it without basic features that the 360 had when it came to friend interaction. I am not sure who is making decisions like that but I hope they are learning from this and changing. With the exception of the Music app WP 8.1 preview has been great though. However even a serious WP fan boy can't honestly recommend a Windows Phone to anyone that is really into music and uses it as a main function of their smartphone right now. The official music app and any of the 3rd party music apps are nothing close to what Apple or Android offers, heck even what the Zune interface offered.

OMG, that is so wrong in oh so many ways!

We've got one L920 that is experiencing a recurring black screen when attempting to use the Music app rendering it unusable. Fortunately Cortana is working for Music playback but the app needs to be updated soon. I ran the diagnostic app and submitted the log to MS, hopefully that will help them get this straightened out. IMO Music playback is such an integral part of phones these days I am surprised at the lack of polish in Music in the developer preview. Fortunately they seem to have an aggressive improvement schedule. Let's hope they stick to it.

You must be knowing that Microsoft has pulled out the music app out of its OS and is dedicated to make it better. As they were busy making the main parts of the OS, maybe they didn't had the time to make a decent music app. So please wait for a couple of weeks hopefully it will revert to the way it was out even better. As for now it is a bit slow but works. As for Microsoft they listen to what their users want.

Well.. You maybe right. But MSFT are already late in the game for submitting the OS. iOS would have had next to no impact, cause there was no competition for it. Same goes for Android. But for WP there is already so much competition. So now if they wanna compete, they should get faster with the whole update process. I love WP and that's why I bought it. But, when people say bad things about it, I can't see it. Or the times, when my phone doesn't work properly. Again, what they did with WP8.1. There were so many leaked features which didn't make it to 8.1 like file manager, USB OTG, ability to chose default messaging app, and we were made to believe even more is coming. But what we got actually, notification centre + Cortana (for US only) and even less functional OS than WP8. Even Cortana was hyped so much, but is less functional than Google Now. Well, you can say this is beta and blah blah blah.. But the beta should have been released months ago and now the official update. Google announced kitkat and even made it available months before, same with iOS 7. And we WP users have been hearing, 8.1 will come and come and come and now it has arrived, it's just mot that good that we had assumed.

Have to agree with Abhi here, Microsoft are entering a crowded arena with some well established players. They need to be doing it faster and better than the other guy (top gun quote?) anyhow they have a lot of existing features they could learn from looking at the other os producers it's not like they are not aware of our hopes and expectations....

They said "the week of April 22nd", so that means anywhere from April22nd to April 29th. Also would they be arrogant snots if they just hadn't announced anything at all and released it when they felt like releasing it? Just some food for thought.

Depending on which day (Sunday or Monday) your country 1st day of the week starts, week of April 22nd would means either April 20th ~ April 26th or April 21st ~ April 27th.

The thing with Xbox one is slightly different though. The architecture is changed, the team is super responsive, updates are delivered constantly. When things broke, they are transparent and even compensate you for the downtime. In comparison, windows phone team is just terrible.

it's interesting to see so many people so frustrated with whatever changes (or not changes) with WP and still sticking with it. It's a love-hate relationship

Cool!! Vegeta!! ;)
I'm sticking cause I still like it better than Android and iOS, and updates are coming. But that doesn't mean I don't want updates faster.

Well considering how every other basic feature of the update works, I don't know why you would expect Music to not work AT ALL.
