Updated Surface pro 2 battery life...from anand tech

Hi everyone,

On October 25, I visited my local Microsoft store and came away with an SP2 256gb. I only intended to place an order and hope for early delivery, but the manager said that the customer who had ordered the unit failed to pick it up, so the manager sold it to me. A representative said that they had a number of SP2 256 gb units available since launch day. I haven't a clue why the Microsoft site shows a date of 12/15 but I was able to buy one much earlier.

Enjoy the day

I think what's happening is that the Microsoft Store Online inventory is independent from their physical store. Much like big stores like BestBuy.
While they do get shipment of the unit, they need to full fill retail store promised amount of deliver of units first.

...We know that Broadwell, target goal for power consumption, is 10W. Meaning that Microsoft will have 2 choices: either make the device thinner, and cause problem with their new dock station...

...OR, keep it the same size, and have a bit longer battery life, which is also a complain. Sure the CPU will be marginally faster and the Intel integrated graphic card will be faster, but then again, due to their target goal of 10W, and not the same as Haswell, it means that it will be marginally faster. Perhaps, at best, similar to the HD 5000 models, being generous here...
Great info thx. I'm of mixed feelings since I also bought multiple Surface Docks that I wouldn't want to be obsolete with future SP models, then again getting a Surface Pro to the same size/weight class as ARM tablets (such as the Surface RT) would be kinda like the holy grail to me.

Then again... keeping a Broadwell Surface Pro at the current size may increase its battery life even more such that it's competitive with the best of ARM tablets? I wonder if Broadwell will see similar battery life improvement as the jump from Ivy Bridge to Haswell?

...If there would be a change, at least in 6 month time, it would be the cameras being the Surface 2 one, and Surface 2 connectors...
Are you referring to the external display connector? You think that in the future, the Pro will drop the Mini DisplayPort and switch to Micro HDMI like the RT? I'd have preferred the other way around...

In fact I thought it'd be more likely that the Pro could upgrade to a Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort combo like in Apple MacBooks?

No, sorry, I meant the power connector.
Thunderbolt is not good. Here is why: Super expensive to implement, expensive cables, difficult to manufacture cables.
No support expect external HDD's which are way slower than Thunderbolt, let alone USB 3.0. So it's a waste of money, in my opinion.
I mean, if they add it, cool, but I won't lose sleep over not having it on my SP2.
I guess one could say: "Look GPU on PCI-E 4x you can do!", which is cool (I mean it's not working well as AMD or Nvidia don't support this, but assuming they do), then so what? I have a desktop PC, where my GPU is on PCI-E 16x. So I don't get the purpose.
