Upgrade path for 1520

Hello All,

Do devices like the 1520 get upgrades to future versions of windows phone? like 8.1?

I read somewhere that windows 7 devices can never upgrade to windows 8

Is this just the nature of windows phone, new os = new phone? or can old devices be upgraded to the latest version as with Ios and Android

Windows phone 7 devices cannot be upgraded to windows phone 8. This is because WP8 was written from the ground up to support the rt kernel. I do believe that all of the current windows phone 8 phones will have access to the windows 8.1 upgrade.

Yea, 7 to 8 was an anomaly. Wp7 got 2 years of updates. So far all wp8 devices have gotten 3 updates and will continue to receive updates including 8.1

I think they meant also WP 9 (if it ever comes out by that name).
So all current WP8 devices should be able to update to WP9 when it comes out.

It may be that I misunderstood, and they meant only 8.1. Tho that would be really stupid.

If AT&T doesn't want you to update, you won't update. But you will get the update if you are on international phone.

Yes. That's how many of us are using GDR3 on our 920s.

It does not remove any branding and it may void your warranty.
