I am using a lumia 720 currently, for the last one and a half years now! And i am very happy with it. :)

But i want to opt for a new windows phone. So which one would you think would be a just upgrade?

And also what do you think about lumia 630 and Microsoft lumia 640? What are your reflections on both the sets?

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

I'm in the same position as you and have just ordered a Lumia 830. I can't be without glance, wireless charging and extendable memory. Although I don't particularly like a larger screen than the 720 I don't think any other Lumia fits the bill!

Lumia 540 would be great .....
As its have 5mp front facing camera instead of 1.9mp in Lumia 640

I have a 830 arriving today. I tried one recently but returned it due to poor Glance performance and issues with the navigation buttons. I did like it though, and hopefully this one will be better. Got it from Amazon so I have 30 days to test it out. The 720 is a great phone, very underrated IMHO. Do let me know how you get on with yours 😊

I know you're in the same predicament Mr. Blackadder ( aka Mr.Bean ). Unfortunately I live in South Africa and I might have to wait a couple of weeks before I get my grubby hands on the phone. It better be a very good phone to beat my trusted 720!
In the mean time I am trying to find a transparent cover as I don't trust myself with a slippery brand new phone.
I have tried EBay but most sellers seem to reside in the US of A and don't ship to SA.
Anyway, I'll keep you in the picture once the phone arrives...👍

That's good. :)

But I am not fond of big screens that much. And since I have small hands, I did prefer a little smaller screen. Although personally I loved the design of 830, but the weight and 5" screen turned me off ! Wish it was lighter and a little smaller! :/

thanks. :)

But camera is not an issue for me. I don't care much about that since I rely on my pocket friendly shooter for taking pictures . And besides I'm not into selfies.

So what I want from my phone is good speed and faster browsing. In short a snappier device that would get jobs done without hassle !

Can 540 do that?

Exactly my reason, why I can't pick up just any phone! 720 is too good and is still going strong! So I guess if I don't find a better replacement,I would rather wait for the future flagship from MS!

For normal daily usage like playing music and light games Lumia 540 would be great....
And if u want a true multitasking with capturing HD videos and heaving gaming.... Then Lumia 640 would be great.
And yes, its official that Lumia 640 will going to be first device which will have Windows 10 Mobile update.
(personally I like Lumia 640 to buy)

Mr Bean reporting in...and sends regards to South Africa, have visited many times! The new 830 does not seem to have the issues I experienced with the previous one, so happy with it so far. Its a really nice phone but I will be hanging on to the 720 as a backup just in case 😊

From seeing all the comments I think I should try the 830!

Plus can anybody tell me how about the 730? Will it be a proper replacement for my 720? 😒

Even though they both have the same CPU (Snapdragon 400) I'd still go with the 830 because it takes amazing pictures with its 10 MP camera and I personally prefer the IPS display on L830 over the AMOLED one on L730. On top of that you'll have 16 GB of internal storage which can be extended up to 128 GB with a memory card. If you're planning on buying it online, keep in mind that there are 3 variants of the phone (RM-983, RM-984 and RM-985). All US GSM carriers will work perfectly fine with RM-985 (sans T-mobile and AT&T). That's one thing you need to consider if you want LTE working on it.

Isabella, I was under the same predicament with my 720 back in April'15. Phone working perfect, with not even a scratch and gave me 1.5 days of battery with moderate usage. But I also developed a liking for 830 after one of my office colleague bought it. It simply feels great to hold, has the perfect screen size I like and has motion sensors. Also the camera is the best part of 830 and clicks amazing pictures.

My humble suggestion to you would be to go for 830 it if you are getting it around $325 (I bought it for INR 21,000 in India) and want to have a great rear camera. The other option would be to go for 640 /730 or simply wait for the new devices that will be launched with Windows 10 in next couple of months.

Lastly, I am not selling my 720 but giving it to my father to check the smooth Windows UI. IMHO 720 is an excellent but underrated device.

Cheers

price-wise, you should stick to either the 640 or the 730/735. Both are decent replacements, but you'll lose Glance screen on the 730/735 and dedicated camera button on any of them.

the 830 is a better option than those but it's obviously more expensive and it's kind of tall, so it might be an issue if you don't want a big phone. The same goes for the 640. This might clear it for you, it's a website for comparing phone sizes (obviously it's only useful on computers):

Compare Mobile Phones Side by Side with Actual size

insert all phones you want to compare and hit ''actual size'', then insert your computer screen size and then ''show''.
