Using the Notification LED?

I know my HTC 8X has a notification LED. It tells me when my phone is low on battery, charging or fully charged. However, is there a way to have the LED blink when I have a waiting text message or missed call? I have been unable to find this in my settings anywhere. Is it possible I have just overlooked it?

The LED is tied directly to the phones charging circuit. The software does not interact with this LED at all. This means the only purpose this LED is used for is charging indications, and low battery indications.

Well that is a little disappointing since I had seen the LED blink blue in some of the First Look Hands On videos. Ahh well.
