Verizon FiOS app

Hello, does anyone know what is required to run this app? My family has FiOS but I love somewhere without their service. Can I simply download the app and use their login or does it need to be hardwired to a FiOS connection?

I read an article about this I believe it was on Cnet. The article said in order to run the app you have to pay for their tv service and have internet connection from them. So from what I understand if you don't have the hard-wired connection from Fios you're out of luck.
