Video API on Windows Phone

When do you think Microsoft will open up the video API for developers so that apps on WP can have the same features and functions as those on their other-platform counterparts? GDR2? GDR3? or Blue? :unhappysweat:

I don't think they will ever open in GDR updates, hope for the best in Blue......Whatsapp will be full functional after that.

whatsapp, skype and so many more apps need those APIs! i think they should speed it up a bit if they can (not compromising on the quality, of course)

can i understand better what the main video api limitation is, is it that 3rd party apps dont have access to video which was not taken with their own app?
so if you shoot some video with nokias camera app, you cant edit it with third party, you cant send it either?

if it is a question of 'we didnt have enough time to code it', then it will eventually be included in GRDx. i can accept that.

but what if this is by design? what is the logic behind this? in that case WP8 should be marketed as a security phone, for ppl who want to hide media,
not a hip/trendy phone, for ppl who want to share media. maybe the new adverts should feature a red lumia used in the oval office for the moscow-washington hotline in the , "your secrets are safe...nothing will (or can) be shared"

sorry for the rant, but am finding a lot of design limitations which dont make sense unless you are a NSA agent i looking for a new $600 phone.

Except, it is. Its a feature that should come out of the box, and have been on other platforms for years. Its embarrassing when a friend asks to send a video and you're like "um ya later". Its ridiculous.

this is the "Windows Phone Operating System/ Windows Phone 8" forum. Its not groups.google.com/d/forum/talk.politics.misc‎ . Nothing discussed here by *anyone* will cure cancer or bring peace to the worlds war torn regions Most posts here are about very specific technical aspects regarding smartphones.

i think (please do correct me if i am wrong) this is the place to discuss such API limitations. & every now and then I bump into someone here who has an actual solution or workaround .
