VLC kickstarter is at 90%

"The initial release of VLC for Windows 8 will run on x86-based devices. Support for the ARM architecture will be added in a subsequent release, since this will involve further development work. The amount of work needed to tackle this subproject can hardly be estimated at this point. However, we are confident to get this done based upon our prior experience on competing ARM based platforms like Android and iOS."

So, yeah, eventually, maybe, for the surfaceRT, hopefully. Not so much for WP8, if ever, far far away, when pigs fly. Kickstarter... still the best scam on the internets :)

Huh?

"Dear backers,

Over the last few days, we achieved the following progress:

The first important news is that a port of VLC to Windows Phone 8 appears to be easier than expected. While the roadmap is about Windows 8 for Intel followed by a version for Windows RT, it appears to be feasible to publish another version with a specific interface for Windows Phone shortly after, since the WP8 APIs are way more similar to Windows 8 than WP7 ones.
Therefore, this fundraiser will help developping a version of VLC for Windows Phone 8. Interestingly, while WP8 offers the same programming interfaces available to Windows 8 & RT apps, it is less restrictive in some regards. Notably our existing networking code is going to run as is."

yep they are all over the map both of those are on the kickstarter site for the project

Why do they need to develop for Windows 8? Isn't VLC already available by just downloading straight from their website?

So they need an icon in a square? Seems like a waste to me. Focus on the ARM RT version. That will work in windows 8 and should be a relatively easy port to wp8. Why develop an x86 version when it already works.

'Porting' it to Windows 8 is mostly a matter of making a new UI. The Windows RT version requires a lot more development work on top of that. Of course they'd get the easy steps out of the way first.
