W10M and openVPN

I was wanting to set up a VPN to my homeserver running Ubuntu 16.04, for local files and/or internet access when I am away from home. I have a domain name and can remotely run it using putty (not that I have to but can). I have had minecraft running on it for my son and grandson to share with thier friends so outside access isn't a problem. I have never experimented with a VPN, I was wondering if anyone could point me to a resource to see if its possible.

I was considering openVPN but was wondering if the VPN in settings>networks will connect to it.

( I tried to search and it fails every search I try)
