I was wrong, it's terribly exothermic, now I let it cool down on ice before I add the rest... good thing I always apply good laboratory practice ;-)

Isn't the reaction I just mentioned spontaneous at all temperatures, or am I horribly wrong?

I think you mean elemental potassium. That's the one with fire and fun when you add water. KOH just gets warm and after a while hot.
