The SP3 doesn't get all that great battery life. Granted, that could be due to the technical preview, but it's definitely a device that needs to be charged at least daily. I also have the i7 model, but that should really affect it much

I don't know about the battery life of the sp3 since my sister has only had it for a day. I would think the i7 would use more power since it does produce more heat and higher clock speed but like you said it shouldn't matter

I think the extra power mostly comes from the boost, and when it's running more intense programs the CPU's boost kicks in, so it's more powerful, but if the i5 were running the same program, it would be under more stress working harder so it about evens out.

...or something like that, I don't know. All I know is that there's no real difference in battery life from an i5 to an i7
