WC 1M Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Looking to not charge the 8 today. I almost types N8, but this phone is nowhere near N8 status. Lol.

The more I used the 8 today, the more I found it...unremarkable.

I suppose as an enthusiast who has used his fair share of polarizing devices in the past, my view of this device isn't as much of a knock on the handset itself. It is plenty fast and capable. It is more on how much the market has matured in the high end space. With phone sales slowing in the high end segments, I'm curious to see what direction do OEMs turn. We are more than ever in a climate where in some cases it makes sense to not be an early adopter and buy last year's flagship, or this year's flagship 9 months in.

The S9 is a very good phone and there are deals all the time.

In other news, the shield TV is off to a good start. The sleep issue sucks, but it has been performing well otherwise.

The back story is that the gf is a TV watching junkie. So in order to keep the peace I'll sit through some of the TV shows she likes. She had cut the cord a while back and we were getting by splitting Hulu (mine) and Netflix (hers). She decided to get sling TV a month ago and her OG Chromecasts were too underpowered. So whenever sling would buffer, known issue, I'd hear the kvetching. Needless to say, sling buffers less on the shield TV, much less.

So she's happy...for now. Lol.

I'm glad that it worked out! May it continue to.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

This is hardly surprising to me. There's been indications for a while now that people are tired of the constant upgrade cycles. Phones are lasting longer and personally I don't see any new breakout features to woo the crowds coming anytime soon.

Most people are happy with what they have/can afford.

The only thing forcing upgrades is software. Which is also bound to flatten out as well.

And trust me, you don't want mine.
I was a bit worried when I saw the CPU. It looked pretty old. It's actually not too bad spec wise. Still on Windows 7 too.

This is going to be one of those jobs where having three monitors would be nice. Doubt they'll give me another one, if the machine could run it of course.

I've reached that point where I'm not going to upgrade unless necessary. There aren't any new devices that wow me to the point I want to upgrade at this point.

That's pretty much the same for me. If my USB port wasn't acting up I wouldn't be thinking of upgrading at all for at least another year.

Any phone I get next will be a longer term phone as I think the tech as plateaued a bit. Unless Google decides their OS won't run on it of course or the company can't be bothered to update it, which is becoming more common.

I went from the X to the Max plus way too much money. Regrets? Hell yeah! Quote the Raven "never More."

That's the drawback with how Android initially so hardware driven. Truth be told, I could have easily if I wanted to be a cheapass just repaired the HTC 10, S-OFF to change the ROM to the international variant and left it on 8.1 and be OK for another 2 years. That phone the audio is still better than a lot of others launched since, the camera is plenty capable (it was the first modern very good HTC camera) and I'm still a sucker for high end aluminum designs.

Not much Innovation lies ahead, I feel. I could be wrong but until they solve the battery issues, I don't see major leaps forward.
