WC 1M Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

I quite like those new G20 3-series, have been following prices and they have come quite a bit down since the start.

But just one thing, this is not M3, it is normal 3 series with M-Sport package ( sportier look and suspension).

What is wrong with your X3 though?

Cars in France are expensive and this car is not something I would spend that kind of money on personally.

I'm hoping the next car we buy (not the second car we're planning to get at the moment) will be either hybrid or electric.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

We have two cars, my wife loves her Honda City. Recently, we did a 12 hour road trip. Normally we'd share the driving duties for such a long journey, but she chose to drive the entire trip. We had stoppages for meals and toilet. but it was a comfortable easy drive in the Honda.
The other older vehicle, which is normally driven by me is locally-made, i.e. basically a nationalised Toyota Passo. Our plan would be to change this for a 4WD, that we could use it in the farm..

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Since they needed the car for a couple of days we needed a car to drive. The BMW service place is 20 mins from where we live and I still need to work.

So we had to rent a car through BMW and since it's BMW you guessed it, it's a BMW. Yes you read that right, rent.

So this next post will be just a joke so please don't take it seriously. It's framed this way to reflect how some people use social media.
The cost of maintenance and repairs on German cars are expensive here in the USA as well. A friend of my cousin has a BMW, and he said he won't ever purchase another German car due to the exorbitant repair and maintenance costs. His next car will be Japanese.

My current car and my previous car have been Honda Civic coupes. I've liked these cars. Gas mileage is great, and the cars are fun to drive.

The cost of repair and maintenance is not too bad if you don't go to BMW....

We just got the cost of the repairs, needless to say we're going elsewhere to get it fixed and it will probably cost us 50-60% less.

Our car is 11 years old there's no way were going to spend half the price we paid for it to get it fixed and maintained.

At least we know what's wrong with it so we can ask around. :)

Never owned a Civic but I think I rented one. Same goes for Toyota.

When my Honda Civic was in for maintenance the loaner car was a Toyota Corolla, which was also a nice car, except it was a sedan.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

I'm not sure either, cos I dont live in the UK!!
I'm over in Sabah, M'sia. We like to eat out a lot, and seldom order home delivery but if we do, its usually pizza!!
I had the impression that you lived in the UK in the past, and that's where you watched football with your mates.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Pizza is very popular in the UK. As is lots of other fast food.

The quality of food in the UK has gone up significantly in the past decade. Whether it stays there is another question.

Not that I consider fast food 'quality food' by the way. That was a general statement.
Oh, I completely understand. I had the impression that if one wanted foods in the UK that aren't bland, then one would get foods such as curry.

The UK used to be the worst place for food in the EU, which says a lot. That's not including the Eastern Europe countries that are just getting back into their traditional foods and also expanding their palates.

However, the UK, thanks mostly to immigration from the EU and other parts of the world, has one of the best food scenes in Europe now, mostly in the cities. A mixture of foreign foods and their own traditional foods has become the norm. A lot of the traditional food is not to my liking either. Somethings are better left to those who like it personally.

Lots of UK residents love Indian food but it's "UK Indian food" in most places of the UK. Personally I'm not a fan. Whereas London and other cities are gaining more traditional and modern Indian cuisine.

In London and other cities you have pretty much every food type you can imagine these days. London of course being the largest gives you the better choice and options available but not necessarily the best. I actually found better Chinese food in Newcastle than I did in London, for example. That's not to say you can't find good Chinese in London just wasn't easily found.

Also curry is a generic term used by English speakers. Most countries where dishes originate from don't necessarily refer to these dishes as curries.

I noticed that looking at prices for new Clio and 208, going over 30k for supermini is just insane. We are still rocking same cars as we did 3 years ago. Changing Laguna has been on cards for couple of years now but since it has been flawless and isn't worth much there isn't much sense to change it. Father isn't sure what to go for, SUV or sedan/hatchback, anyway.

As for electric cars, quite a lot of new ones are coming, many presented and some still coming. For the main car I would probably go for plug in hybrid, something like BMW 330e, Golf GTE. Some new are also coming, Megane PHEV and new Captur PHEV.

What are you looking at for a second car? Some small little runaround?

Not sure what car to get for a second car.

We've been trying to determine how much we want to pay vs comfort.

I was originally thinking about just something small but then we decided to think about long drives (back to the farm from Paris) and that means something a bit larger and more comfortable. But don't want anything too large. Also don't want anything too old.

So sort of stuck at the moment. Even used cars are way more expensive then they should be.

I was in Ottawa, Canada for my uni but never made it to the UK. I have many relatives & friends over there. So its on the cards, even a visit to Anfield, the home to Liverpool football club.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Happy July 4th to all the US people. And a happy Thursday to everyone else.

I should get dressed soon to take 99 and Mr. Clue along to DC to see Tio Trump's military parade.

I'd enjoy it a lot more (maybe) if I didn't have work tomorrow (and a full day's worth of work, including a field visit to boot).

It's supposed to be sunny here. If I could spend the day sleeping in a hammock with a gentle breeze, I certainly would...
