WC 1M Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

So there's no SE2 announced at WWDC (I had some hopes) but I'm very impressed that the iPhone 5s will be getting iOS 12 and that notifications will finally be grouped.

It sounds like it's time to make a pros and cons list between my phones because I'm torn.

Good luck with the list.

Changes are needed. Don't want to do it, but it is necessary. Need some wine to mull the details over...

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Thank you, I'll need it. Kinda also debating a possible carrier switch as well but I need to look into some research on that. That depends on the decision made.

So I made the honest list without any distractions and not surprisingly, the iPhone 7 wins. I will be returning the XZ2 Compact.

I'm considering trying an iPad mini 4 and my funds will be better served there. I know what 99 and MIA would say but I'll like to try it as a dedicated reading device possibly, unless one has a better suggestion for me. The mini appeals to me simply for the size alone. The 9.7 iPad is nice but I value having a light, easy load so a 6-8" screen is ideal since that means a smaller form factor.

I would get a Kindle but I have Kindle books, library e-books (via an app) and PDF books that I'll be reading and it seems like such a challenge to get all of these formats supported in one device and a tablet might be better suited to do that.

Past, a Huawei tablet is a better bet than the iPad Mini and more $ left over in your pocket.

I remember that you used one. I remember seeing one that has a 8" screen, I'll have to see if I can find that again. It seems like they have a good balance of performance and specs.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Picked up the 10 today. Really, really love the in-hand feel. Enjoying the 3.5mm (LG's DAC on the V20 is better though) I realized why I didn't buy one - it was always too expensive. Very nice and could have easily been fine with using it as the daily driver. The Pixel 2 in comparison is a little bit smaller.

Need to S-OFF it so I can flash the unlocked software as being the T-Mobile version, there's no 8.0. Kinda wondering if I'm better off just running Lineage OS on it instead.

Overall, in OK with getting it...I'd honestly prefer a U11 for the more modern hardware, but for what I want...it'll do for now.

I've tried to like the Mini but the size difference between a Plus phone and the Mini doesn't do it for me. The tried and true 9.7 is the Goldilocks of tablet sizes (for me anyway). I hope it works better for you than the Holy Grail phone search.

Cool, you got one after all! I'm looking forward to hearing about how this goes for you.

That makes sense, considering that you have a Plus phone.

For me, I refuse to use anything that can be bigger than a book. I really like the size of the Kindles actually for reading, just the closed system is a pain. This is more for fun reading, and no actual entertainment apps. 99 gave me a great suggestion, so I'll probably be going with that.

If I had a vote, it's either the entry level iPad or the Huawei tablet. There is no way i'm getting an iPad mini 4 with that ancient hardware at Apple's modern ripoff price of $400.

I hope you find something that works for you.

Yeah, it's beat up but not as beat up as I thought it would be.

My only two gripes are that it feels slower than how it should run (SD820 was a nice paced chip) and the battery isn't going to be great as it's old. So when I do the restore some time in the summer, I'll have a better feel for it.

Yeah that makes sense considering the specs for both. I'll be looking at a Huawei tablet. I'm not one of those ladies that carries a huge bag and I'm not about to be about that life for a tablet so smaller is better. I just have to see what deal I can find.

Thank you. I think I need the separation when it comes to reading.

Gotcha. Both of those are justifiable gripes. I hope it pans to be workable for you in time, if not over time.

I think it'll be fine. I liked a lot of the 2016 models. My favorite was the Mi 5. It's like the Pixel 2 - missing one thing. Mi 5 lacked the T-Mobile bands; Pixel 2 lacks the headphone jack.
I enjoyed the V20, wanted a G5 but never got one, and loved the in-hand feel for the 10.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

So after messing around with the 10...I'm bitterly disappointed.

Not in the phone itself, it's a fine piece of kit. It's just that it really doesn't solve my problems. I just wanted two phones: one spare, one daily driver. OEMs push for differentiation now do so by boxing up selected features and omitting others. As I keep saying ad nauseum, and perhaps it's time I shut up, but OEMs with the help of consumers have boxed us in with regards to choice.

I work hard for the $ I put down to get a device. As much as I understand trying multiple devices is an expensive setup, it doesn't make the current state of affairs more tolerable asecausell work hard for my $. So to not be able to purchase a device to the combination of features I want (audio, camera, battery life, software support) is just disheartening. And to watch Joe average claim I'm stuck in the corner/petting zoo crying over spilt milk or stating "why not get an iPhone or Samsung device to solve your problem"? If I wanted either, I'd own a Note 7 FE and an iPhone 8.

It's just one of the uglier elements of capitalism: what's important to you as an individual consumer makes you nothing more than a statistical plot point in a sea of analytics to OEMs. Now, to get the 10 how I want, I have to convert the model I have to US unlocked because this carrier variant didn't sell enough for a carrier that's known to have quick hooks on products that don't sell well. It is more cost effective throwing away consumers who bought a niche product (by sales volume). It's the same ire as to why some folks here took pitchforks to MSFT through each if their major OS update cycles.

It sucks. And it won't get fixed because OEMs have trained their target demographic well.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

For some reason, it's challenging to find the tablet that I wanted in general (not many listings, that is), but I decided to go with Amazon (also free same day shipping is a nice perk) since that's somehow the cheapest. I'll try it out and go from there.
